I prefer the 57-59 Ford (especially the JP> retracts), just a better looking car, IMHO. Well I had a nice `56 Cheiftain 2dr wagon untill about 12 years ago :-) Actually I liked the looks of the `57 more than the other two and then the `59 next. The heavy bumper and crossbar of the `58 just never appealed to me neither did I appreciate Ford stealing the `57 Studebaker tailight lenses. :-) Happy Trails bRad ... Do any of you get the History Channel? There is a program on Saturday and Sunday at 7 p.m. eastern on automobiles. While not old cars per se, they take one make/model and follow its history. We have had the History Channel here only a couple of weeks and found this show when flipping the dial one evening. The other night they had the story of the VW bug, for example. I am interested in old cars, and have owned a few in my day. The first car I owned was a 1953 Chevy Bel Air, which for the day was fully loaded (PB, PS, automatic, etc). A four door sedan. Had to give it up when I went in the Navy in 1969. Another car I owned was a 1965 Ford Falcon coupe. Really loved that old car. The only extras it had was a radio and heater. :) Joe (back to lurk mode) ... It's a MEASLEY 4BBL :) > I wonder what the CFM rating is on that puppy.... If the carbs a Q-jet, you can make it flow nearly full potential with some minor filing. (most Q-jets are rated for 750cfm. Larger models typically found on big block buicks have a rated flow of 800cfm--Look inside the venturi and you will see a molded in "ring" which, in the 800cfm unit is not as beefy.) For those wondering about getting more flow out of the Q-jet, push open the secondary air valve with your finger, if the short half of the butterfly is not (or very nearly) straight up and down you can file down the tab on the passenger side of the carb which acts as a stop. Do not overdo the filing to get the larger half to sit straight as the airflow in this situation won't allow proper butterfly operation under certain conditions. > i think i should get a 360 degree intake.... does that cause your MPG to > suffer? if you take in more air? it only makes sense.... If you mean a single plane manifold by 360o intake, don't bother unless your making an engine that will live in the high rpm band. Most single plane manifolds only start to make any power above 3500rpm. In other words, your bottom end torque will suck. If you plan on making a car for the stop-light drags, or any street driving for that matter, stay with a dual plane intake manifold. | AmiQWK 2.7 - S/N 0261 | ... As to the origin of the abreviation, the extra 'b' is probably in there to differentiate it from 'bl', which is the abreviation for 'bale'. Teamsters in the horse and buggy days hauled a lot of both, and the bookkeepers would have been understandably confused if BOTH were entered on log sheets as 'bl'. To further confuse the issue, 'bl' is also the abreviation for Bill of ing. --- Maximus 2.02 * Origin: McAllen Memorial Library FidoNet (1:397/5258) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 155 OLD CARS Ref: DA500009 Date: 06/04/96 From: ELVIS HARGROVE Time: 02:51pm \/To: BRADLEY PUTCHAT (Read 5 times) Subj: Cit pics? -> So I take it that just about everything out there has hoof damage -> now? It was Chevy's best year to date but Ford still beat them 27-19 in Grand National, 26-12 in Convertible Div., 14-13 on short tracks and completely shut them out 16-0 in USAC races. It wasn't until late in the year that Chevy finally got things going. They won more races in 1958 than when they were new.
