I have a handheld scanner and a TV remote that the most used buttons are starting to refuse to work. On the old remotes I've taken a part there seems to be a little piece of carbon over a open circuit and when you press the button the carbon completes the circuit. In the past I've tried cleaning both the contact on the circuit board and the carbon 'button' with varying success. I'm hoping that there is an fairly easy fix, maybe a conductive paint for the 'button', or some thing. I hate to think that I'm going to have to replace the entire thing because of this. Hello All! I'm wondering if there is in existance, a database of ALL licensed radio users, that can be accessed via the internet. For instance; I'm listening to 151.865 and I hear a business using the frequency - I'd like to search by general area or callsign and find out who the user might be. Is this possible ? About the best thing to use is a pencil eraser, and follow that with a TINY amount of WD40. I've gotten several TV remotes back up and running this way. Also, often times, the problem isn't actually the keypad, but rather the battery contacts. If they're dirty, it sometimes takes more effrort to get the keys to work. Try cleaning those, too. Good Luck! Let me know how it works. --- SLMAIL v5.02 (#0226) * Origin: The Big Byte BBS 704-279-2295 (1:379/301) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 154 SCANNERS Ref: EDD00004 Date: 09/08/97 From: SCOTT CHRISTENSEN Time: 07:05pm \/To: RICH WILLBANKS (Read 4 times) Subj: RE: key pads Rich Willbanks writes in a message to all RW> On the old remotes I've taken a part there seems to be a little RW> piece of carbon over a open circuit and when you press RW> the button the carbon completes the circuit. It's actually carbon impregnated rubber. There is so much carbon that the rubber conducts electricity. But the surface will wear and you are left with less conductive material. I'd suspect you have some problem beyond "most used" buttons, since TV remotes get an awful lot more use than scanner keypads (which usually get used once to set the frequencies and then are typically ignored unless the owner moves). --- Simplex BBS (v1.07.00Beta [DOS]) * Origin: The Spirit of '76 (1:3644/8) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 154 SCANNERS Ref: EDE00001 Date: 09/09/97 From: CHARLES HUNTER Time: 09:04am \/To: JOE NICHOLSON (Read 4 times) Subj: Top Ten JN> THC> I'm creating the following list for my web page. > THC> I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions.
