--------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 154 SCANNERS Ref: E5B00020 Date: 05/04/97 From: JOE SADLEK Time: 07:05pm \/To: ALL (Read 2 times) Subj: best mobile antenna I have a Radio Shack mobile scanner in my car. I just moved it from my old car to my new car. When it was installed in my old car, I used an antenna splitter from Paradynamics. It worked great. I tried using the same antenna setup in my new car and the reception was bad for both the scanner and the radio. So, I now have taken a 12 foot piece of antenna extension and stripped the insulation and copper braid off down to about 3 feet from the end. The covered end I connected to the scanner and the exposed, insulated center wire, I ran behind the mouldings next to the windshield, above the door, and down the back of the roof. The reception is better than what I got with the Paradynamics splitter but not as good. My question: Is there a way to tune this sort of antenna for better reception? The system works by sub audible tones opening the squelch of the recieving unit which is tuned to the same tone meaning that several companies can use one frequency but only the squelch of the recieving set will open if it recieves the same tone as the transmitting set. Now this system is ideal for a community repeater which are normally based on hills soo as to increase the radio range. I am located in Barrow In Furness in Cumbria and I would like to know if anyone can help as to where the location of these repeaters are in my area. One is on 165.4375 and the other is on 165.400. the input frequencies I would assume are 4.8 mhz higher which is standard vhf split. --- Spot 1.3a Unregistered * Origin: -+- Barrow In Furness Lake District Cumbria England (2:255/122.20) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 154 SCANNERS Ref: E5B00022 Date: 05/01/97 From: MARTIN NIEMEYER Time: 09:22pm \/To: ANDREW LEARY (Read 2 times) Subj: Uniden Trunk Tracker On (01 May 97) Andrew Leary wrote to Raymond Dhilly...
