Yep, I agree. Now I wish my g/f didn't buy me that $400 TS>-> TS>leather jacket I wanted, but got me that new RELM scanner that TS>-> TS>I really want now. ;-)) TS>-> Still waiting as of today. TS>..and waiting...and waiting....and waiting....and waiting..and TS>waiting.. I wait no more! The place that I originally ordered from still didn't have one, so I called The Ham Shack. They had one in stock and sent it out last Friday. I got it yesterday (Wednesday), and have been putting it though it's paces ever since. Possibly, no probably, the best hand held scanner that I have ever had. Very sensitive with the stock ducky antenna, especially on UHF and UHF-T, which is most of what I listen to. VHF high is good, low band seems okay, but I don't have enough frequencies programmed in to make a serious determination. I like the way it programs, and the way that it programs PL. It does tell you if you are programming in duplicate frequencies, but it allows you to do it if you want. I have the same frequency in three banks, but each with a different tone. In addition to the volume and squelch on top, it has a channel knob so you can step through the channels manually. If you turn this knob, the radio goes into manual automatically. It's fairly small 6 1/2 x 2 1/2 x 1 1/2. The display could be bigger, but it could also have been smaller. The display has two indicators for priority scan, one tiny "pri" on the lower part of the display, and when it is not receiving it says "PSCAN" on the main display. In non priority, it says "SCAN" on the main display.Tone can be turned off or on for the entire radio, but not for individual channels. I haven't played with the search yet, so I can't say anything about that. The priority, is not very intrusive, especially considering that it has ten priority channels. Weather scan is nice. The external power and ear phone connectors are on the side of the unit, so that you can lay it down and power it and have an external speaker. The external 12 VDC requires a connector like those found on some radar detectors, I think it is a 1.3 mm. That's what I do like, now for what I don't like. 1) Delay is all or nothing. 2) There is no way to keep the light on for more than 3 seconds. 3) The keyboard lock locks all functions, not just the frequency programming. 4) The biggest complaint of all, is that you can not search for tones or digital tones. Standard PL information is pretty easy to get around here, but DPL is tough. It really should allow you to program in a frequency and then search for the proper PL. I paid $249.00 plus $5.00 for shipping, which isn't bad. I figure another $30.00 for a case and and mobile mount, DC power cord, and NiCads. It will definitely do until the Uniden trunking tracker is available, and maybe even then. Gary CMPQwk 1.42 129 Suicidal twin kills brother by mistake. It appears to me that Fidonet has a substantially greater amount of order and respect for one another than exists in the newsgroups. Furthermore, it is nice not to be overwhelmed with 100-150 or more messages a day to sift through, esp. when many are unrelated to the newsgroup in one way or another. I really appreciate the way the Fido groups work and how everyone treats each other. There is a LOT of good information in the newsgroups, but Fido seems so much more easy-going(for lack of a better word!) than the newsgroups. Some others I have talked to have commented about the amount of garbage in the newsgroups in general, like off-topic stuff, personal attacks, etc. If anyone has a viewpoint concerning this, please post. Bill Cheek, please tell me if this is off-topic for the scanner echo. If so, I will cease and desist immediately with my deepest apologies. I just feel the scanner echo(and others on Fidonet) is vastly superior to Usenet in terms of common courtesy and decency for your fellow poster. I really enjoy the Fido scanner echo and appreciate the vast accumulation of knowledge and experience present here. Thanks a lot....
