I did it for years. GW> Successfully. I've had no luck what so ever. Of course the problem could be location. I've talked to someone who owns the same gear I do, and he says the same thing about scanning the SW bands, and he's been doing it much longer than I. I've found it more trouble than it's worth. Besides I like to look for those weak stations buried down there in the noise. Having heard SW, the first time I heard a transmission on a scanner, I couldn't believe how crystal clear it was! I was hooked! Don't remember you posting what kind of scanner gear you use, or did I miss it? 73/88 Bobbie ... <<<< ScanRadio Co-Moderator BobbieB1@aol.com >>>> --- Blue Wave/386 v2.30 * Origin: Smoke Signals * 972-562-6012 * McKinney, TX (1:124/6104) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 154 SCANNERS Ref: DDG00025 Date: 09/10/96 From: MARC CHABOT Time: 03:23pm \/To: BILL CHEEK (Read 13 times) Subj: PRO43 batt.charger Hi Bill. >Do NOT measure the recharger's output when it is not connected to the pack. >The value will be meaningless. Yes, without a charge my old Sega 9V 1A reads 18.4 volts; just like all chargeless recharger it's way above expected. While plugged in the PRO43 (turned off) CHG hole it reads 13.8 Volts! While plugged in the PRO43 (listening to 162.5500) CHG hole it reads 13.2 Volts... way too high. >E. Hi-Cap NiCd's are 850-mA/H rated, so a trickle charge (C/10) will > be 85-mA. I dug and the only other 9V charger I have is a 9V 100ma, I'll change the DC plug for a 3.5mm and check if it's closer to 11V - 12V while charging. At least with a lousy 100ma it won't hurt to let it charge 24 hours a day if I compare it to the 9V 1000ma... M.C. --- * SPEED 2.00 #2668 * --- WILDMAIL!/WC v4.12 * Origin: STAT! Fast Scan (Ham) TV and Broadcast TV signals are 6 Mhz wide. WAY beyond what a scanner can do. OTOH: I could be wrong. Maybe Bill Cheek's working on a scanner mod for it. All the real-time TV radios I've even seen have been special units. However with a scanner (and a proper decoder and monitor) you could get: FAX Slow Scan TV Radio TeleType ASCII (Computer to computer) PACKET (like what we do here on the BBS's) AMTOR " PACTOR " GETOR (spelling?) " If the scanner supports AM and has a BFO (or LSB/USB switch): CW (Morse code) SSB (Ham voice) If it goes low enough in freq you could get all that stuff from around the world instead of local. Or you could always use a Shortwave receiver for world-wide signals. I was at a friends house because I don't currently have Windows and a Web Browser. Because of time constraintes I was only able to look at it for about 15 minutes, however it does appear to be very interesting. Very easy to use. Hope the electronics of the real thing are as good as the moving around on the front panel is. ___ Blue Wave/QWK v2.12 --- Platinum Xpress/Wildcat! v1.2f * Origin: Williams Comp Svcs:BBS Doors! Maybe Bill Cheek has some comments along that line. Before having computer controlled SW scanning radios, I did it the old fashioned way; hours and hours of turning the dial on an R-390. :-) The only scanner I currently have is a Uniden BC-100XLT.
