It's "big brother", the commercial version called "TSE (The Semware Editor") can do this if you run it in "binary" mode. Depending on what you wish to do in the way of reformatting the problem may or may not be solvable with Qedit. I don't work much beyond the simplest of throwaway macros in Qedit but I've seen some breathtaking examples of what others have done here in this forum so I suspect if you describe your specific requirements in more detail some of the "macro gurus" can tell you whether it is possible and perhaps indicate how to proceed ;-) DR> Second, I am somewhat confused about the print command. Qedit always prints the file as displayed so if you reset the right margin shorter you will need to rewrap the lines so they fit. Remember it is a text editor not a word processor so it doesn't, by default fiddle with the length of the lines. After all many folks use it to edit program code where sticking in extra line ends is very bad behaviour indeed ;-) -- Regards -- Sid Lee (FIDO - 1:134/122, Internet - sidlee@agt.net) --- Blue Wave/Max v2.12 * Origin: RASCAL BBS [Calgary, Alberta - (403)686-2550] (1:134/122) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 152 QEDIT Ref: DEC00002 Date: 10/03/96 From: DANNY KEOGH Time: 05:11pm \/To: JOHN LIPSCOMB (Read 4 times) Subj: Re: DROP While sitting on cloud 9, John Lipscomb said to Gapqwk something about DROP JL> DROP Drop what? As I received no response, I am posting it here as I just noted this echo on my local Bbs. The repost follows: Date: 09-27-1996 21:11:13 To: 75300.2710@compuserve.com From: donald.roberts@postoffice.worldnet.att.net CC: droberts@joshuanet.com Subject: Novice Qedit questions Hello, I recently downloaded Qedit 3.0 advanced but am as yet unable to perform two rather basic functions. First, I hope to create a macro which will start at the beginning of a text file and reformat each paragraph in that file. Implicit in designing such a macro is the ability to search for two consecutive enter commands. Even using the control p literal followed by a control m, another control p and another control m, I get the "not found" message. I am obviously missing something but thus far have not figured it out. Second, I am somewhat confused about the print command. Specifically, I wish to print (not save) a disc file. By doing so, I assumed that there would be the designated left margin, right margin, top margin and bottom margin. Not so. What I get is a file where the text begins on line 1, not on line 6 as I had expected. There is a 10-space left-hand margin as I wished. However, instead of a 10-space right- hand margin as I had wished, the file is the same width as before, merely moved ten spaces to the right because of the ten-space left margin mentioned previously. Here again, I am doing something wrong. I thank you in advance for any assistance you may be able to offer. If it is less difficult and more convenient for you to respond with a voice message, please do so at 916-896-2519.
