I written some music, mainly just for the piano, and I want to get a Midi keyboard, to play the music in through, and some software to help me write it up (and play it back) on the computer. I need the software to display the music on a stave, and print it out like that, and I'd like it to be able to display all the usual symbols, including slurs. I've already tried a few shareware packages, but none seem to be much help. I have a 66 MHz 486, with a plain old Soundblaster 2 soundcard (which I'm happy with). If anyone has any advice on which keyboards or software to buy, please let me know, and also do you need an interface card for the keyboard? Thanks, Dan. ... The Alesis might not need the MIDI interface card, most other keyboards do. I really can't recommend any software, as I use a different computer. Dave Gostl http://www.sstar.com/d ... I've already tried a few shareware packages, but none seem to be much > help. I Used a program by a company called midisoft, called recording session but i converted my computer into the bbs... It was a pretty good program but you couldn't print with it. I used another one called music time by a ompany called passport, and it it is pretty good and allowed you to print your heet, music, add lyrics and all kinds of good stuff, but it had something like a 64 bar limit. But this was back in 1994 so i assume that both companies have done some upgrades and improvements on their products since then... As far as a keyboard. As Long as its General Midi I don't think you can go Wrong... but I could be wrong also... I think Midisoft also made a full feature midi package called the recording studio that allowed you to print your sheet music as well. MABY?????? Didn't see an 800 number there, on their site, did you? I've talked with them before, ... seemed like it took -forever- to get someone on the phone, and I explained *then* that I had the Soundwave32+scsi. Naturally, he wasn't paying attention, sent me in the direction of the sw32 files. Not good enough, for the soundwave32+scsi. Called back - FINALLY, I convinced him I had the +SCSI card, and he then admitted that there were different drivers for that card, but they weren't available anywhere - I had to have the commercial version. Does this make sense to you? I yelled - "I HAVE THE COMMERCIAL VERSION AND YOUR SOFTWARE, BUT ONE OF THE DISKETTES IS CORRUPT! WHERE CAN I FIND THE CURRENT DRIVER FOR THE SOUNDWAVE32+SCSI CARD?" As I recall, his answer to that was to send back the original diskettes, and they would verify that it was theirs, then call me. I still have the diskettes... that's my only copy! The only thing that's not working properly, is the Mixer. Something about the effects.ld file algorythm is out of range, so I get no slider bars on the mixer. Also, the PFX software program comes up with the same error... I'm wondering what else I'm missing with that mixer not working! I've got a Yamaha opl3???? somthing or other. And I can't find anything listed. Could your card be Sound Blaster conpatable??? maby you could try some of programs and see? That's the best I can suggest. Except throughing that damn thing in the trash can and getting somthing that you can get the software for.(that works) currently (for now) my computer system is working except for shut down and the the thing tells me it can't take a "snapshot" with 5017 err. code, and no body knows that that refer's to.
