RO> Please write more of your person, what music do you make? I'm just getting started, so not much. A good friend of mine from South Carolina is an old band mate of mine,(a bass player). He bought a computer this year, and is starting to write midi music from the staff,(notation). We keep in touch over the Internet, and he sent me a composition he wrote, and I added the percussion parts and sent it back to him. He then adds to that, sends it back to me, I add more, and send it to him etc. It's been alot of fun so far, but I need to learn how to use the midi stuff so I can do better. I need to be able to use the midi percussion that's ther, but I don't know how yet. I have alot to learn as you can see. Nice talkin' with 'ya, Rick ... I would say that the most important piece of information that you could have would be a good knowledge of music theory. I started out in life playing drums in elementary school band, after taking three years of piano lessons. I tought myself to play guitar, and played lead guitar in many bands during my early teen years. We needed an organ in the band, so I bought a Farfisa compact organ, and started playing chords. I've been on keys ever since. The most important thing I ever learned was in a mucis appreciation class my senoir year in high school. Our band director tought the class, and aside rom the jazz and big band stuff he exposed us to, he taught us how music went together, and the basic theory of music that lead to the "Nashville" method f writing fake charts. I've used this knowledge for over 25 years now, and have been a lot of places and worked with a lot of names you'd reccognize. Get the foundation first, and then the chops will come.. RS> Then I can concentrate on RS> learning the keys. I'll never be real good at performing, but that's ok, wi RS> the computer, you're not pre-desposed to performance mistakes :-). It's nic RS> that you can go back and clean up after yourself :-). I will grant you that!!! I've done a lot of studio work for songwriters in this area, and the best thing I ever did was get the midi/computer thing happening. You can do exactly what they want, and it is a lot easier to edit out (or in) a note or a whole passage on a computer a LOT easier than you can on a tape!! mp --- GEcho 1.00 * Origin: Since March 13, 1986, The Ashland Connection BBS (1:262/120) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 151 MIDI-NET Ref: E1B00001 Date: 01/06/97 From: RICK SNYDER Time: 05:14am \/To: RED FERN (Read 3 times) Subj: Re: new here RS> Hi, RS> I'm new here in this echo, and have not seen any messages here since RF> the RS> echo was turned on about a week ago. I understand jazz great Chick Corea is discrimiated against playing in Germany because of his religious conviction! What kind of garbage is that? Hope you get my drift because, after all, most of your popular music comes from America or is based upon African influences brought to you by American artists. CAn't recall too many polkas making the Top 40 charts around here lately. Just the beer. Maybe you Germans are too drunk to see? I see that some of your tourists are being killed here in Miami. Any conection, do you think? Sorry, folks, this has nothing or little to do with MIDI. In the late 90's, one would think that religious intolerance, government supported, would be a thing of the past in a "democracy" such as Germany. I could do this with my guitar and the pedal that I have but I need... well, a .PAT editor. What will I be doing? I figure I get a program, play a C, and it will do a lot of whizbanging and I'll be happy with the result, but I can never be too sure... :) -ROCKO- * SLMR 2.1a * Do not judge a book by it's movie. --- Maximus/2 3.01 * Origin: The Reading Room, Woodstock NY, 914-679-4602 (1:272/160) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 151 MIDI-NET Ref: E1C00000 Date: 01/06/97 From: GERRY CLARK Time: 09:46am \/To: RICK SNYDER (Read 3 times) Subj: new here Hi SNYDER, how's things? 30-Dec-96 11:58:44, RICK SNYDER wrote to ALL Subject: new here RS> Hi, RS> I'm new here in this echo, and have not seen any messages here since he RS> echo was turned on about a week ago.
