MP>> With the directly DIGITAL recording, the noisefactor will MP>> be a lot smaller. I never heard of the 'Faraday Effect' before. What is it, exactly? The way I understand it, the way to prevent noise in an audio card is to use high quality, really well shielded components. You're probably not going to find that in a Soundblaster card. As for your theory that a digital out will produce a clean 95db signal to noise ratio, that's a false assumption. So is the assumption that the digital output will sound better than the analog output. Just having a digital out does not make it a good quality digital out. A digital output can still contain noise, and can still be crappy. In the case of a soundblaster, it's not going to be great quality. MP>> I didn't try it yet, but I once talked to a musician, who MP>> owns a computer schop (selling the AWE32), MP>> who made with a friend a House/Trance Track. They recorded MP>> it and used it in Disco's.... So, it has to work acceptable.. Ah, the truth comes out. Again, you're putting way too much faith into what other people tell you. Chances are very high that this story is BS. Even if they did "use it in discos", that's not proof that it was of high quality. MP>> this Digital Out. It wasn't perfect, but already a lot better MP>> than the ordinal Line out for Recording. Again making with the assumptions. In many cases, a device's digital output will be quieter than its analog output, but it is not an immutable law. It all depends on the device in question. In this case we're talking about an output that is not even mentioned in the owner's manual, apparently. Here's what you should really do: connect this digital line out (if that's what it really is) to a DAT machine or some other DAC, listen to it, and compare it to the analog output, and decide for yourself whether it really sounds better. Don't forget that if it's an S/PDIF output, you'll need 75 ohm S/PDIF cables. --- QScan/PCB v1.17b / 01-0182 * Origin: Balmy Beach Toronto 416-690-9641 (1:250/422) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 151 MIDI-NET Ref: DBY00015 Date: 07/26/96 From: GEORGE KOTSOPOULOS Time: 05:04pm \/To: DOUG MOORE (Read 3 times) Subj: PowerTracks Pro for Win -> The other day, after such a session I said, "Do you know you're a -> real pain in the butt?"
