I hope that your friend replaced RG> his helmetsince after impact the helmet is of no use. One impact is RG> all that the helmet was constructed for. yep, he replaced the helmet soon after he had that accident... the tread came out pretty good... you could even match it up to a similar tire... when i worked in a bike store people couldn't believe that a helmet was only good for one use... one pair were not going to buy the helmet until a total stranger who happpenned to be shopping for a helmet pipped up and mentioned that the more expencive motorcycle helmet was only good for one use aswell... ... internet: Packrat@canbbs.net | fidonet: Packrat 1:153/871 ... I've ridden in extremely -> hot weather on quiet roads and decided to take my helmet off to cool -> down. A well-designed helmet has proper ventilation. In fact, studies have shown, in wind tunnel tests, as printed in Bicycling Magazine, that the head is actually cooler with such a helme than without. Besides I saw this incident not on a very quiet road but on a bike trail, probably about the most dangerous place to ride. --- PCBoard (R) v15.4/M 5 Beta * Origin: Access! JP> What can I do about straight across handle bars (miss wrap-arounds JP> on raod rides, terribly) and the length from seat to handle bars is JP> same as schwin LeTour was for me, which is correct for off-road JP> riding but NOT road riding.? My advice is to go to a bike shop and see if they can change the stem for you. That will give you a different length from the seat to the bar and/or raise/lower the bar. The catalogue I have here lists stems starting at about $US50 and up. JP> And the seat could probably be changed back to the leather skinny JP> riding seat I kept from LeTour, but the current seat's angle is back JP> and not forward like I need for road rides? If you look under the seat, there should be a bolt to adjust the angle of the seat as well as one or two for fore/aft adjustment. JP> Any suggestions? What about handle bar extensions I've seen? I use mine all the time. If you can find them (or have your local shop order them), a company called Lizard Skins makes neoprene bar end grips. They come in two lengths and a variety of colours. You can install them yourself. The biggest problem with bar ends for road use is that you can't reach the gears or brakes so using them in heavy traffic is *not* advised. Padded gloves are also useful. JP> Please help? I hope I did. Please write post something when you get your bike dialed in and let us know how you're doing. Tailwinds to you, Steve ... I have the Profile Superstryke and it works out terrific. It's a whole new position to ride from, stable as well once you get used to it, and adds about 1 to 2 MPH to your ride if you're doing 19-22 to begin with. They don't weigh too much, bolt on with an allen key, and have adjustable armrests so you can get into a good position to fit you, personally. I like them, alot.. Easy, we just change the subject to one of Cycling. I just got my ol' Trek back from the shop where I had new Tires, Tubes, and liners installed along with a general cleaning, Lubricating, adjustment and it sure seems to be working right now. When I was stationed at Camp Holabird Signal Depot I suire recall riding those antiquated Trilley cars down to Baltimore. Used to go to Carlins Stadium and go Roller Skating all of the time. I enjoyed that more than cycling. ___ Blue Wave/QWK v2.12 - JetMail v1.206 - Unregistered QWK Mail Door for Spitfire --- Alexi/Mail 2.02b (#51) * Origin: The Port Brew | S. A.
