BP> Yea, I saw a bike with front suspension yesterday, didn't even know BP> they existed... Dear Bill: I had the same reaction when I bought my (non-suspended) Trek Multi-track a few years ago. At that time, front suspension was fairly common on mountain bikes and rear suspension was just starting but no road bikes had anything like it. Now the manufacturers are starting to build front suspension on some road bikes. I started dreaming when I read Bianchi's 1996 catalogue and saw their Paris-Roubaix model: titanium frame with front and rear suspension. It listed for 750,000 yen or about $Aus8,300 ($US6,500). A friend of mine said "Sure, it's great but I won't ride something that looks like a piece of aircraft undercarriage." He's right - it is not all that beautiful but I can still dream about it. I can't wait for next year when I might buy something new. Tailwinds to you, Steve ... We were cruising along holding an average speed of 22 or 23 miles an hour which is very fast for us. As we rode down the road taking turns pulling and sucking wheel, this guy shows up behind us. As he got closer and closer it was apparent he was going to pass us. As he went around, he was wearing old sneakers and sweat pants cut off just above the knee. He was riding an old banana cruiser with the seat way to low and plastic streamers coming off the handle bar grips. As he pulled around us, he quipped, "Morn'n fellas." and went on down the road... :-) Don't worry about what that old bike looks like, just keep doing the miles. Probably not, there is not a single rack for bikes available in the whole of Manhattan nor Brooklyn. They are allowed on the subways. The weirdest thing is that most drivers from Jersey are death to us cyclists as are taxi's and car service.... but overall it is a city to bike in as the traffic is grid locked most of the time (especially during rush hour). I use to have a cateye solar powered computer. they were of the first generation solar powered electronic devices. It never made sense to me that they also needed batteries. The solar cells didn't even regenerate the batteries. I had tons of problems with mine. I had to send a couple back to Japan for repair. They are easily affected by rain. It would be easier and cheaper to purchase a newer model that is 1/4 of the size and with batteries that last 3 to 6 years instead of the one with the solar.
