KB> Not true. Like I pointed out, when you buy a video you buy ONLY the KB> right to show that video in your own home. You do NOT buy the KB> right to resell it. You do NOT buy the right to make a profit off KB> of it. So, you are saying that by Disney's copyright notice that the dozen or so Disney videos I have bought over the last few years and given to my nephews as gifts are illegal? By your interpretation, I purchased them, I do not have them, they were given to my nephews for their personal use, not mine, thus breaking the distribution agreement. So, to right a wrong, I should go over there and take away the Disney videos, since the right to transfer ownership of the tape falls under 'other rights' and only Disney has that right. Should I write to Disney and ask permission to give my nephews Disney videos as gifts in the future? To insure that neither myself or my nephews don't break any laws, will I have to have the 3 year old purchase the video himself? Remember I don't have to profit from the distribution to be found guilty of copyright infringement. In light of _Disney's_ "affect on society" and the world, I think that the notion is worth exploring. Disney built its reputation on being a wholesome, family experience and generations of families have been raised on Disney productions. Disney is now a media giant with few, if any, peers, and the company has made noteworthy changes in the type of productions it undertakes. The world's a radically different place than it was when Disney first opened its doors. Car-jackers and drug dealers with automatic weapons, drive-by shootings and millenial fever were not a part of Walt's world. It's therefor worth contemplating what Walt might have done in light of such developments. How would Walt have addressed these problems? What kind of _programming_ would Walt have contemplated and approved for production and inclusion in Disney's theme parks and for worldwide distribution through radio, tv, theaters, print and other media? It's called _programming_. Think about it! For instance, contemplate the story of "Pinnochio" and the ideas it might propagate in the formative minds of young boys and girls. Then compare it to a production which romanticizes piracy and consider the ethics and values that such a production might instill in the conscious or subconscious mind. NOW... Consider the fact that Disney finds itself constantly fighting software _pirates_ and knock-off artists in an age where digital imaging makes it possible to produce millions of copies of computer floppy disks or video tapes which are virtually indistinguishable from the original! Recognize also that in today's world, a copyrighted work can be instantaneously transmitted around the globe via the Internet and the World Wide Web. It might make any corporation think twice about glorifying PIRACY! Don't you think? How much money do you think Disney spends annually fighting piracy? How much money do you think Disney loses in sales because of piracy? Remember... We're talking about _programming_. You said: SA> Muscling is bullying. Forcing your opinions on a society that SA> will not change its way 100%. The PC Police seem to believe SA> that if these changes take place, the world will be a more SA> peaceful place. Organized groups of humans represent political and economic clout. Corporations survive and grow on the flow of money. Add it up. Since Disney has long been equated with "wholesome entertainment" and, in fact, has become the giant it is because of its wholesome image, corporate decisions and economics at Disney are intimately linked to consumer perception and awareness of the moral values represented by the products and services it offers... moreso than most other companies. Who knows what kind of social impact the exposure to certain forms of _programming_ has over the long run? Do you? The real question remains: How do we bring about a better, more peaceful world?
