In the old days, the R/G pair was the telephone line, the Y/B pair was for the transformer that powered the light inside the old "trimline" and "princess" phone sets. In the '70's, the light inside these phones were changed to a green color and was powered by the dialtone, leaving the Y/B pair free. The transformer was a little 1.5-inch square unit that plugged into the AC receptical, and the secondary side was the yellow & black that fed into the phone to light the keypad to the Princess & Trimline phones. Since those type of phones are rarely in use anymore, the Y&B pair is no longer used as a power line and is used for an additional phone line. That problem could exist anywhere between point "A" and point "B", and since line condtions can vary while online, your baud rate can drop. Check your baud rate with different phone numbers you call. Sometimes you CAN narrow it down. If you have a problem with EVERY call you make, regardless of it's location, then the probelm may be on your end, either in the line or modem. I once had the problem, and it didn't occur until I reached the higher baud rates. It appeared to happen every time I made a long distance call, and even on some local calls. It took three technicians from the phone company to find that the problem was the corroded terminals in the outside box that connected my line. He selected a vacant pair, and I haven't had a problem since. The first two techs that came in said that my inside connections were a problem, after I told them that I installed my own phones & lines, not the phone company. Once you have yor end squared away, it's not much else you can do. Ray Madison 70661.2471@compuserve.com madisonr@auhs.edu U.S.A. ... I'm not sure exactly how they were ranked, but the factors listed were Price (filter and cartridge), Capacity, Organics, Lead, Taste, Parasites (yes or no only) and Flow Rate. They tested (separately) Carafe, Faucet-Mounted, Countertop, Under-Sink and Reverse-Osmosis models. Regarding the Under-Sink models, the first six were not ranked real close together. The top-rated Rainsoft had almost a perfect score (shown by graph only, not by number). The Teledyne IF-10A was rated "Good", just below "Very Good". Just looking at the graph, I'd estimate the Rainsoft as having a score of about 95 (out of 100), with the Teledyne at about 58. * LED v1.51 * * <-- Tribble + <-- Born again Tribble --- JetMail 1.00alpha0 * Origin: Terry.May@rebel.ronly.org - Las Vegas, Nevada (1:209/745) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 102 CONSUMER REPORTS Ref: F1P00006Date: 01/18/98 From: TONY STANCATO Time: 11:35am \/To: ALL (Read 4 times) Subj: mazda 929 Does anyone know anything about the 1993 Mazda 929? I've tried it and decided that I'd rather endure the ads than sit there and delete ads on a daily basis. There are two things that irritate me more about Juno than the ads: it *often* takes me three or four tries to connect to their system. Since Juno is *NOT* a local call for me, this costs me between .04 and .09 per try. Also, trying to get any customer service is almost impossible. They want you to pay for it. That is probably "right" for most cases, except when you find out you've paid $1.95 per minute and the problem is NOT your equipment, but the compatibility between yours and Juno's. These things are enough to make me look for a real ISP connect. (As a matter of fact, I'm just waiting for the software to arrive for that, as we type.)
