Probably you are missing the initialization registration disk that will allow you to run the registered version. This would be the disk number 1 that came with version 12. Otherwise I think it will only allow you a limited preview version. This is a preventative method now employed by AutoCAD to prevent illegal use of the program. James Root ... Then you have to go into autocad and add that printer to the list of available printers which will show when you click on the icon for print. A menu will appear which will allow you to select and load that printer's driver, and the options will be different depending on the printer that you have selected. Your AutoCAD dealer support would be helpful about this problem, and you should give them a call. James ... Origin: No Regrets, Clinton, MS (601)924-8247 9P-5A (1:3632/65) Revision 13 requires 32 megs of ram, whereas version 12 got away with 16 megs of ram. I have been running AutoCAD r13c3 on 16 megs of ram, but will be upgrading soon to 32 megs which is what is recommended in the manual. This is because as our drawings get larger, and we added hatching, it gradually eats up memory. We have found that sending the plots to a HP Lazer 4M printer works well, unless there is a lot of detail and hatching in the drawing (printing it at 8 1/2 x 11 inch size), and that certain situations due to the complexity and bytes in the drawing it exceeds the limitations of the Lazer, we simply cut down on the print quality from 600 dpi to 300 dpi. The printout still comes out sharp and clear, even though the dpi have been reduced. This helps on memory, or otherwise upgrade the Lazer's 4 megs to eight. We are using a Calcomp TechJet plotter and have had no problems with it, and have kept it local and connected to our two workstations through a switch redirectional device, which works just great. Origin: No Regrets, Clinton, MS (601)924-8247 9P-5A (1:3632/65) I agree, that's the only way to go! That's the way we do it through our Novell network and Windows95 on the workstations. The plotter (TechJet by Calcomp) works just fine with the Bidirectional Parallel Compact Auto switchbox (DataCom), as we prefer not to make the plotter available or be shared on the Network. We are using AutoCAD r13c3. The problems with the lazer printers was resolved with one phone call to the AutoCAD support staff, and they were very helpfull. I have found that in using more than one printer, it's best to end capture on any printers that may be captured and this is accomplished with the Windows95 control menu. The printer that we want to use is captured before executing the print command in AutoCAD after the drawing to be printed is loaded and is visible. As we are using a HP LAZER4/M printer connected through the Novell Local Area network, we find that drawings which contain a lot of detail, especially hatching, are better printed simply be lowering the resolution rom 600 dpi (default) to 300 dpi, and the results are crisp and clean even being enlarged with our photocopier to a larger size than the printer's 8 1/2 x 11 inch output. The printer drivers that are to be used within AutoCAD are added to the configuration of the AutoCAD program by typing "CONFIG" on the command line, and this allows you to select a printer driver suited to the printer that you are using. If you are using Windows/95 it's best to select the ADI windows driver in opposition to the one supplied by AutoCAD. Once you have run your test printout to your HP Lazer, then you will know if it's all going to work or not. When we installed the CalComp TechJet plotter "E" size, we installed the driver for Windows/95 as supplied by the Manufacturer (CalComp), and then typed "CONFIG" on the command line and then added it to the list of drivers, and everything worked just fine the first trial. We still had to, of course (end capture) on the Lazer4/M, and capture the plotter. James ...
