Hailey (Tuesday July 29 1997): GH> I thought I was the only living Blakes' 7 Fan..I was surprised to GH> hear the program being re-broadcasted in your area.. Blakes' 7 has GH> qualities quite different from *Trek and Dr. Who, yet is very GH> enjoyable... If they'd rebroadcast the series here, I'd faithfully GH> video-tape it.. We just started watching old B7 episodes at the science fiction club at uni and nearly everyone's enjoying it immensely. There's a lot of younger members (late teens) including myself who've never really watched it properly in the past and it's taking off in popularity. Trek's good in itself, but I guess it's nice to have a break from shows like Star Trek from time to time. It's got a different twist to it. :-) One of the things I've noticed (which admittedly has probably been noticed ,before) is that underbudgeted SF on TV such as TOS, B7, Dr Who etc is often thought out better. I s'pose it's because they really had to rely on story to survive and shows that didn't didn't last long. Trek seems to've lost it a bit over the last few years (to me) although I still make an effort to watch it to keep up to date. I still enjoy up to roughly the end of TNG (it seemed to trail off a bit towards the end) and DSN has good stories here and there, I haven't seen much more than the first season of Voyager yet. Without trying to stir things up too much in here it seems as if ST's getting lots of money but the writers are more interested in starting with an effect and trying to invent a story for it than starting with a story and using effects where necissary. It doesn't seem to have that sustaining edge underneath the visual effects so much anymore. I guess money corrupts. :( Catch ya later, Mike. email: zog@sans.vuw.ac.nz --- GoldEd 2.50 NOT NOT NOT NOT UNREG * Origin: DARK SKIES Astronomy -- Wgtn, NZ. +64-4-232-8056 (3:771/1560.201) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 108 STAR TREK Ref: EC300005 Date: 08/01/97 From: JON FOSTER Time: 09:31am \/To: MIKE BRIAND (Read 1 times) Subj: Conventions 02/02 MB> Are there any conventions taking place in Canada any time soon, that MB> you know of?? D is in TNG and Generation and that E is in First SL> Contact. So where's the C?? The U.S.S. Enterprise, NCC-1701-C, was first (and last) seen in the 3rd season TNG episode "Yesterday's Entperise," in which that very ship emerged from a temporal rift, having travelled 22 years into the future (to TNG's time) and altering the "known" timeline in the process. I happen to question the scientific validitiy of such a disruption, preferring instead to think that the story merely shifted to the "altered" timeline rather than the timeline actually being altered at that point, but none the less it was an excellent ep.
