CT> BN> Except for the fact that the novels aren't stand-alones that are CT> BN> their own mythos. Their very existence comes by virtue of their CT> BN> devolution from the TV creation of TGBOTG. CT> Devolution? I hardly think so. I is my subjective opinion CT>that the novels enhance the aired series by giving us a look at things I meant the primary definition, to pass down from an original, not the usually secondary one of degeneration & deterioration. ;) I don't think anyone would argue that the novels are children of the parent show. CT>represented by the aired shows. Hard to cram the 100yr life span CT>of a TOS/TMS era human into a half-hour tv series, let alone the 200+ CT>year life span of most Vulcans. This is true. But do the novels then take precedence over their Creator? Don't think much of a case could be made for that one. I have no problem with the novels -- I've said as much in so many words, a number of times, no? }:) What I have a problem with is the fact that a number of people do in fact take the novels as superior to the show. This makes a sum total of 0 sense, to me at least. :) CT> BN> And if those "personal adjustments" agree with the createe instead CT> BN> of the Creator (note big C this iteration ), it's then possible CT> BN> that they can be correct & the show not? CT> Yes! It is my experience that the human imagination operates on CT>an unlimited budget in an unlimited time frame. All points of view are CT>equally valid. Uh, could you run that one by me again?? The novels are correct & the show they wouldn't even exist without isn't? Hmm. This one I think I may have to do some extra thinking on.... Possibly re-read first paragraph of mine above, plus a few dozen of my other posts -- the connection & disparities in the illogic of the concept of novels superseding the show will probably be a little more clarified. :) CT> BN> OK, leave us be sure we tell that to the person who said CT> BN>last week that Riker couldn't possibly be captain because a CT> BN>novel said Data would be, right? }}};) CT> Actually he said the reverse, that just because Data was the CT>Captain in the novel didn't mean they couldn't or wouldn't put CT>Riker in the center seat in the aired TNG.
