How are you this day? I am fairly healthy, all things considered. My name is Suzanne, and I have a seizure disorder coupled with the se of only my left arm. This is the result of a cerebral hemorrage that I had at the age of three months old. I function well in the world. I am married to a terrific man named Robert. I am an unemployed teacher. Before I go on, let me tell you that *EVERYONE* is welcome here! None of us here on ABLED is like the other. (Some of us are *MUCH* different, sn't that right, Wally Brown!) (Grin!) There are many aspects of life that we all share. I know that I have learned a lot from the folks here about various disabilities and their special challenges. In other words, whether you walk, wheel, hop, skip, twist, swim, or, whatever, feel free to chat to your eart's delight! I hope you will allow me to put in my two pennies' worth about your se of a wheelchair. In my opinion, if you are helped to be/stay more independent with the use of a wheelchair, it is *NOT* a sign of defeat! What nerve for others with MS to make such judgements! As for "going the distance", each human being will make a journey---at the pace God has for them. To say more about Him, might get me in trouble here, so maybe we can speak on this ubject in e-mail, if you ever want to. Defeat, to me, is the lack of hope and faith. From this short letter to us, you seem *FAR* from defeated! I will look forward to seeing your letters in he conference here at ABLED. Once again, jump on in, the water's fine! Chat up a storm! WB> Grins! Don't worry, I've been wondering thesame thing lately, but thank heavens things are getting back to normal! WB> Alan, what is the command for storing a message with Blue Wave? With version 2.12, you make sure you are in the body of the message. Then you type the letter s. You are then asked if you want the message saved as a quoted message. In the case of your messages, I typed y and accepted the default file name the system gave me. I called up that file when I entered the message into the offline mail reader and was able to put it into the message and edit the whole works. WB> Sorry to hear that you have both been ill with the flu, that is no WB> joke. It sure isn't. I think my dog is glad to see things returning to something like normal around here. I was off work for quite a few days and although I was able to look after him all right, he didn't get the work he would normally receive. I'm now back to work and I think he's much happier about the whole situation. He may be getting older, but he's still very enthusiastic about his work and he misses it when he doesn't get as much as he would like. WB> Is there no bylaw preventing them from using the sidewalks for dumping WB> snow? This street isn't particularly busy, so they do it and get away with it. I don't know if there is a bylaw on the books, but if so, it's going entirely unrespected by the municipality. I don't think we'd get a lot of support from most people around here if we did try to force a change, but it's lessw of a problem right around this area than it is elsewhere. WB> We have a city ordinance against people not clearing off the snow. I think there's a similar one in saskatoon and we would both like to see something like that adopted here. It's something we'll have to work on. AC> This particular training session lasted a full day and I can tell AC> you that my head was spinning by the end of it. It would have gone AC> fine if the guy hadn't been so interested in cramming so much AC> information into the session without giving me a chanceto absorb it. AC> I was all set to take notes, knowing full well I'd never remember all AC> ofthe information, but even he ended up admitting that it was simply a AC> case of too much information, too fast. WB> Was that for computer training? It sure was! Sometimes the people who teach this stuff become quite wrapped up in their subject and it seems they can go on for hours. One thing that did help was Monique's knowledge of the same kind of equipment as I am using. She was able to go over things that were rushed during training. AC> I remember being in a similar situation when I was studying in AC> Montreal. I was taking some optacon training and hadto cross a grocery AC> store parking lot to get to the subway station. A man who was new AC> to the area asked the driver where to get thesubway and was told to AC> follow the guy with the black dog. My first dog really liked to AC> walk fast, so he had quite a time keeping up with me. WB> Isn't that humorous? It sure was! The guy couldn't get over how fast he had to walk to keep up. I suspect that was the most strenuous exercise he had done all day (grin). WB> I remember, shortly after going blind, I had taken the time to learn WB> of all the streets in the district I lived in at that time. When Monique and I were married, my family came from saskatchewan forthe wedding. The night before, we went to my brother-in-law's place for supper. When we came home, I was in a van with my brother-in-law, while Monique was with my brother, who had never been to Hull before. She was the one who described the route to him so he finalyy did make it to the house. My nephew was quite impressed at how well she did. Well, I better finish this message and get my upload ready to go, since I start work quite early tomorrow morning. Many blessings, Alan ... BK> If I may ask, was this study especially for folks who have a hard BK> time getting medications due to their budget, or what? It is part of a nationwide test of a new blood pressure medication. The heart doc says that preliminary tests indicate that it should be superior to most present medications, at least for the folks who have already had a heart attack. If these national tests show good results, he may put me on the drug. But he did not want me to take the chance that I would not be without medication for the duration of the test. The test is a double blind test, namely the patient does not know if he/she gets the medication or a placebo, and the patient's doc does not know, and the local center does not know. In this case, the heart doc and local center for the test are the same, but patients of any doc will be accepted if their doc says OK and if they meet the criteria for selection. LN> How did this pan out for you? BK> we're still in mid process as I write this. I'm working on getting BK> the form read. they did send it to me, which really helps BK> immensely, Hummmmmmm. LN> I LN> shall not take any photos until there are at least twenty to LN> shoot. BK> that's probably the cheapest way to handle the project, right, or is BK> there some other reason you're wanting to do it that way? Because it is the least expensive way to do it. There is no use in using a roll of 24 exposures to take ten and then paying for the processing also. Film and processing costs the same whether you finish the roll or not. And, I do not want to shoot a few and then have the camera tied up so that I cannot use it for anything else until the whole roll is finished. BK> Our weather has been strange to say the least.
