The "first-time" event exceeded expectations, a spokesman said. Officials would have considered the weekend of vintage racing a success if only 6,000 fans had turned out. The show, a fund-raiser for the Plymouth Holiday Bowl, will go on next year, but dates have not been set. The Navy received only two informal noise complaints and of the 150 cars racing there were only two, minor driver-error accidents. Several modifications are being planned for next year's event. "There were some obvious things we need to improve, and nothing that came up that was a total suprise," said race organizer Steve Earle. "From the participants' standpoint, the track surface had a lot of rocks and debris that came up, and theat can be fixed. From the spectators' standpoint, we need more bathrooms and more food and beverage locations and not just in one location. We definitely need more grandstand seating, which we can do with no problems. And we need to make track access easier," Earle said. I can't explain it all, but IMSA went away earlier this year, bought by (I think) Andy Evans and renamed Professional Sports Car Association or something similar. Latest I heard, this group is being sold by Evans because some other people in the auto racing field do not feel Evans is doing a good job in his direction of road racing. Rumor is that Bill France, Jr. and Roger Penske were involved.
