Good fortune returned to Gordon, who nearly fell from the lead to one-lap down when he began losing air while on the 20th lap. Gordon was back among the top five just 50 laps later. "This is awesome. The Chevy Monte Carlo, awesome today, and that pit crew, they were so awesome today getting me out in front," said Gordon, who recorded his 25th NASCAR Winston Cup victory and is tied with Jim Paschal for 19th in all-time victories. "I'll tell you if that 99 (Jeff Burton) could have gotten on my rear bumper it would have been trouble." Burton turned in a tough performance to take runner-up honors, with Dale Jarrett, Mark Martin and Jeremy Mayfield rounding out the top five. Ted Musgrave, Darrell Waltrip, Geoff Bodine, Terry Labonte and Dale Earnhardt turned in top-10 performances. "We had a good run all day," said Burton, who at one point was running one-two with his brother Ward at the head of the race. "We had one little thing that kept nagging us all day -- a little piece of rubber fell down in where you adjust the track bar, and when the weather changed we wanted to adjust the track bar and couldn't. I'm not making excuses because we could have adjusted it, and it could have hurt us." "The guys did a super-good job today," said Mayfield, who added Sunday's top-five to a fourth-place finish last week. "Things are working great. The team is coming together." After Gordon resumed leading at about lap 137, the race seemed to become a walk in the park for the 25-year-old phenom from Indiana. No driver was able to mount a serious challenge, and his pit crew worked with precision in getting his car in and out of the pits in excellent time. Gordon will move into a tie with defending Winston Cup champion Terry Labonte, who finished ninth Sunday, at the top of the series points table. Martin, Jarrett and Jeff Burton will round out the top five, with a total of 183 points separating the group. Earnhardt's finish moved his winless streak to 40, equaling the seven-time Winston Cup winner's career-high 40 race winless streak in 1982-83. ***************** * Final Results * ***************** NASCAR POCONO 500 RESULTS 1. Sounds like he needs to lodge a formal EK> complaint about the unfair treatment!! Hello, Well he went again. This time he did better. He came in second place in the heat race. All though he tried to race on the cement wall in front of the stands. He bent the spindle on the front right tire. It wasen't so bad that he couldn't run in the feature. When he got into the feature he was doing real good. He was in third place and his transmission started messing up. It wouldn't go forward, it would go into reverse. So he had to come of the track and didn't get to finish. He probably would have come in first if that hadn't happened. There was only five cars to finish the race. He thinks maybe he did something to the transmission when he ran up on the wall. Well got to go talk to you later. Amanda --- Maximus 3.01 * Origin: New Orleans P.C. As we all kwnow, one of the most important things for a F1 driver's career is to be faster than his teammate. Let's take a look on this year's qualifying sheets (after Canada's Qual.): Arrows: Hill 7 - Diniz 0 Williams: Villeneuve 6 - Frentzen 1 Ferrari: Schumacher 7 - Irvine 0 Benetton: Alesi 4 - Berger 2 Alesi 1 - Wurz* 1 *replaced Berger at GP Canada McLaren: Hakkinen 2 - Coulthard 5 Jordan: Schumacher II 3 - Fisichella 4 Prost: Panis 7 - Nakano 0 Sauber: Herbert 2 - Morbidelli* 0 *repalced Larini from GP Spain on Herbert 5 - Larini 0 Tyrrell: Verstappen 3 - Salo 4 Minardi: Katayama 1 - Trulli 6 Stewart: Barrichello 7 - Magnussen 0 Frentzen is weaker then most have thought- or is Villeneve just that strong? I wonder if Berger will retire next year, though he finished 2nd in Argentina. Nakano is still at Prost even with his poor results not only in qualifiying. It's definetly an advantage to be the son- in - law of Mr. Honda, who supplies the Mugen/Honda engines! Magnussen, who dominated the F3000 and proved to be quick in his two McLaren drives, still has his problems. Falvio Briatore should be satisfied with the performance of his former test driver although he crushed the B195 in the shicane before finish in qualifying. Talking of qualifing, I hardly saw Michael Schumacher drive that spectacular: slipping, sliding, brutally braking. He finally shocked the Villeneuve fans around the circuit when he took the pole in the very last minute. You could hardly hear the engines in the roaring of the crowd! Now to the race: The hopes of Canadian fans lasted only 150 seconds until Jacques Villenueve hit the wall at the shicane berfore the start/ finish straight. Even before that, in the very first curve, Panis crashed into Hakkinen and debis forced Irvine into the gravel. Panis, however, could rejoin the race. The race was full of action with fierce position fights between Barichhello, Salo and Verstappen; simultanious pit stops of Fisichella and Alesi; an im- pessive running up of Frentzen: Started fourth, an early pitsop forced him back to position 17, then he made his way through the grid finishing fourth. David Coulthard was the unlucky fellow of the race. On his one stop strategy, noone could have stopped him, but his second set of tyres wore off so quickly that he had to make another pit stop. On this pit stop, ploblems with the clutch forced him back to 7th rank. A few seconds later, Olivier Panis crashed into the tyres at Pont de le Concorde. His car badly damaged blocked the track, so the race was stopped after three pacecar laps. The accident looked worse then it actually was, Olivier Panis has just a broken leg. At victory celebration nonone knew what happened to Panis yet, so Schumacher didn't spray the champagne. Drivers' Championship after 6 rounds: ===================================== 1 M. I am a avid mud plugger, which, for those who don't know what it is, is a competitive sport involving time trials around a mud track containing deep mud holes, some as deep as 4-5 feet. The event is held once a month and runs on different classes - 4wd, buggy and car. Any new vehicle must have roll cages, safety harness, fire extinguisher (which must be able to be removed within 30 sec). It also must have a power switch accessible from the outside ie. it must disconnect all supply, so it is generally the positive lead of the battery that runs through it. A tow hook on front and back must be fitted in case of being bogged in one of the mud holes. You generally get 3 qualifying laps (depending on the amount of vehicles entered for the day, but it is only ever more than less) to get your best time possible, then the quickest vehicles for each class race in the finals. We have an assortment of vehicles that race ranging from V8 buggies, VW's, 351 Fords, Utes and I personally race a Ford worked 6 cyl XP hard top coupe, areally nice car to run. Each vehicle is fitted with tractor tyres on the back to help with traction and light truck tyres are optional on the front (depending on your suspension setup). The location is out side of Murray Bridge, about 1 and a half hours from Adelaide, right behind the Makeys hotel, an ideal location if I do say so myself. A day of racing will cost around 20-30 dollars depending on how many pit crew you might have ($5 for each additional member), and it is generally run from about 10am - 5pm. They have food and beverages available and makes for a top day out for the family. If there are any people interested in more detailed information or are interested in the purchase of any vehicles, there are a few for sale, then feel free to drop me a line. We are after more competitors so that when we travel interstate we have a better chance of kicking some ass. Hope to hear from you soon.
