They all look like FFs with bigger DD> Ford motors. It used to be that with minor tweaks a racer could run DD> F-2K, Continental and F-C on the same weekend in the same car (I saw DD> it done at a Labor Day Divisional/Regional weekend at Pueblo DD> International Raceway). And why are Van Diemans so popular there when DD> you can barely get anyone to run one in FF? I know for a fact that the DD> V-D is a bitch kitty to set up properly and must be "spot on" to be DD> able to go forward... wheras a Swift or Reynard is much more DD> forgiving As I understand it, all are the same thing although F Cont. allows cars other than the FF2000's. As to the VD2000's, the car is apparently the hot lick in Yurrup and runs in the same configuration here (slicks). The VD FF is originally designed to run on the street tires they run in Europe and doesn't have the development base on slicks that its older beathren has. Once the Ford Cosworth DH> showed up in the 70's the offy disappeared quickly. I'd like to know DH> the time line of engines, I guess beginning with the rear engine cars. The Offy and Ford V8's co-existed for a while. Ford's first win was 1965 with Clark, won again with Hill in '66, in '69 (Mario), and 70-71 with Al Unser. I can't find a reference but I believe Foyt's '67 was also with a Ford. Ford dropped out in the early 70's. Offy won in '60-64, 1968 with Bobby Unser and also won in 72-76. Foyt won in '77 with his version of the Ford. Cosworth took it's first in '78 with Al Unser. --- * OFFLINE 1.56 * I read the docs, but the nurses were more fun. --- QScan/PCB v1.19b / 01-0530 * Origin: Collector's Edition * Dallas, TX * 214-351-6548 (1:124/2143) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 142 AUTO RACING Ref: DEM00018 Date: 10/17/96 From: MAX LAKE Time: 02:44pm \/To: KRISTOF VAN HEES (Read 5 times) Subj: formula 1 (question) KV> Can someone please tell me next seasons formula 1 calender and driver KV> seats? FR> the story I got from the crew was on the last lap of the feature in FR> the week prior to the fall final Jim Brodrick tangled with ted...ted FR> proceeded to exchange a word outside of the car and popped him FR> one..though brodrick still had his helmet on..can't blame the FR> officials there, ted just lost it as we all do at times. Funny, you'd be surprised (or then again maybe you won't) at how many emails I've gotten from people who just hate TC... I was pulling like heck for him at the Busch North race this past weekend at Lime Rock - figure better for him to win it than Leitzinger, but I digress. I know Teddy's got a spotty reputation at Stafford in the SK's - I recall the time Mystique put some kid in the #13 and he had to put a "I'm not Ted!" sticker on the back of it to keep guys from trying to dump him.. but I think TC's a heckuva driver. FR> I only made the sizzler myself...word in the shop is prostock and 1 sk FR> will be sold...more of the tour car next year..though my boss is apt FR> to change his mind. I hope to be moving up to northern ny in the FR> spring if all goes well... In the utica area...any good tracks up that FR> way you know of??? Looking forward to seeing more of the Tour car - TC really ran well at Watkins Glen till the car let him down (his car probably not Mystique's). As for tracks up round Utica... I'm sure someone in this Echo can help you out there, my knowledge of New York state gets fuzzy once you stray past Albany. There is a publication called the Speedway Directory that supposedly lists every darn track in the country, from the big boys down to the quarter-milers, I should pick up a copy myself someday if I could remember how to order it.. at any rate, if you stumble on a book by that name, that would be a good start as I know in upper NYS there are a bunch of little tracks, I'm just not sure which one would be closest to Utica. DD> Just spent this week-end watching the SCCA/Valvoline Run-Offs live on DD> SpeedVision - from Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course... with time out to root Man, I have _got_ to figure out how to get my meathead cable system to add this channel. First the Lime Rock Busch North race, now the Runoffs! DD> I was really impressed with the quality of the camera work and the DD> technical expertise shown by the fledgling network. I just wish they DD> had got a better pit talent than Calvin Fish. I didn't like him when he DD> was a racer wannabe and I like him even less as a race reporter DD> wannabe. Yeah, but what a name! Almost as good as former DSR competitor "Duck Waddle" in his "Li'l Duck". I always rooted for him at Atlanta. DD> It was neat watching the Production classes from D/Prod on back. How DD> long will those people be able to scrounge up pieces for DD> long-out-of-business British marques. FLASH!!! For all you H/Prod DD> folks... there is a finite supply of Spridget and Fiat 850 parts DD> y'know! I dunno about Fiat parts, but Spridgets just don't die. I saw a G-Prod Midget a couple years ago that had precious little stock left in it - reminded me more of a quarter-miler Street Stock than the FProd Spitfire my dad ran in the late '60s, which was very close to stock. I saw the entry list for HProd, and saw one of the cars waaaaay down on the bottom of the list (near various Spridgets and Toly Arutonoff's Opel GT) was a Honda Civic. It was extremely slow, in excess of 120% of the polesitter's times so it would have to get special permission from the stewards to race. I'm curious if it made it to TV (very unlikely) and about what vintage Civic was it? Perhaps it was a '73-'79 Civic 1200 that got too slow to run in GT5 anymore... DD> Interesting to see that Ford power has replaced the original engines in DD> Sports Go-Slow (errrr Renault) as the spec racer class. I'm gonna miss those Renaults - they reminded me of Christmas morning. Ya know when someone opens a present and everyone else in the room goes "ohhhhhh" in the exact same tone as a personality-free Spec Renault flying (and I use that term loosely) down Lime Rock's front straight. Hope you enjoyed the rest of the Runoffs on TV, and that you appreciate how fortunate you are to be able to see them. ... I have many racing friends there and get along quite well there.........therefore my husband finds other things to do most times so I'm at home versus with the guys!! Hiya I like DJ second to Rusty, however I truely believe that Terry Labonte may end up with the title over DJ. Ithink its gonna be close!! As for RC I think next year should prove to be quite good for him barring any unforseen injuries or accidents. He has quite the potential to run "with the big boys" on a regular basis I think. Next season may prove to be interesting and I am already looking forward to its start!! AS for JM I think given a few years more he too will be in good contention with the big boys!! I honestly just wish they could do something with the drivers who are consistantly putting out drivers, who dont really need to be racing with the better racers. FRIENDLY RACE FAN Stephanie >:) ...
