TS> I heard a NASCAR rumor yesterday. It seem that Jack Roush is TS> interested in buying out Bobby Allison Motorsports. They are manly TS> interested in Kieth Almond's expertise. The deal would give Bobby TS> cash and a way out to regroup. They may keep the Bobby Allison name TS> for a while. With the last two outtings this car has had, I was waiting for this type of rumor to start. Frankly, I don't see it. I think Bobby'll hang in there. I think it all depends on his and Judy's divorce. From what I've heard, it isn't as messy as the one Junior and Flossie, nor Howdy Doody and whatever her name was, went through. I think something is amiss at Roush Racing. There seems to be a lot of mechanical failures this season, notably on Mark's car. Jack is a Hell of a mechanical engineer (he should be; I think he's the only actice car owner with a Ph.D.), but I think he has lost the handle on his W/C operation. I doubt if he'll jump into another venture until he gets things back on track. TS> I would imagine they would dump Derrike Cope after this year, thats I used to be one of Derrick's biggest critics. However, he's improved and I think he and Allison make a good combination. TS> On a different subject, do you all think it was very smart replacing TS> Steve Grissom with Greg Sacks? I would have given Grisson to the end TS> of the deason at the very least. Grrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!! IMHO, NASCAR politics at their worst! This smells like Billy Ingle from the git-go, to me. Remember, this is the same car and driver which was in the top 10 at the one-quarter mark last season. Grissom is a proven winner (BGN champ, 1993), but without a good team, he's another field-filler. Ingle's no Buddy Parrott! I didn't like him when he was with Rudd; I like him even less now. Plus is Sacks a proven loser or TS> I think that the owner of the 29 car expected to be way up front by TS> now. It is owned by Gary Bechtel a mega wealthy construction equip- ment TS> exporter. It seems they equate money with success in WC. It doesnt TS> always work that way. Gary and his wife have dumped a lot of $ into both WC and BGN. I think they're looking for a way to cut their losses and bail out. From what I've read, Ingle wants to buy the team, but on his terms. I don't think having Steve in the mix is one of his terms. Time will tell. Sacks is a decent driver. I don't, however, see going from D.K. Ulrich to Team Bechtel (Diamond Ridge) as anything more than lateral. 3 July, 1996 Bob Tanner bobtanner@aol.com ...
