ML> ML> The rules for the Clash have been established for some time. Are ML> they proposing something different? Hmm ...? I thought this info would have made the rounds by the time you got the message. Oh, well ... Richard will not put a Busch decal on the #43 because he has an aversion to advertising alcohol (he usually comes out with a "They should ban alcohol if they ban tobacco ads" type of statement every time the tobacco lobby and the powers in the District of Criminals go to war). Since the Clash is a Busch event, A-B has stated that the STP Pontiac won't get an invitation to the race next year. Supposedly Richard said that he would "Try and work something out." It's basically the same as Rusty's not collecting the GatorAde Halfway Challenge $ at Sonoma this year because Miller Brewery won't let him put the Gatorade decal on the #2. A interesting sidebar is that I thought all cars were required to carry a Busch decal in the BGN series? If anyone here gets a chance to look at Comb's #43 anytime soon, could you please look for a Busch decal? If you haven't heard about the Petty-Busch Caper, then you probably haven't heard the latest scuttlebutt that Brett is losing Lowes next year (This isn't a rumor), and they will go with RCR's second car and Skinner next season (this still is definately in the rumor stage). Also, IRL apparently tested at Las Vegas yesterday (6/25), according to what I heard. Lots of heat and heavy winds and they supposedly were turning 205-207. BT> How about this anology: Just because a player plays (pick any sport BT> in the stick & ball world; basketball, football, tennis, etc.), and you BT> don't happen to follow that sport closely, doesn't mean that players BT> isn't a bonafide professional. True. I hold that same analogy for race drivers. There is a lot of talent out there that never gets the attention that the "stars" do. BT> When they (CART) started the current proponderance of these !$#*!#* BT> road races and merged its identity to that of F1, its racing became an BT> entirely different type of competition. Some liked it; some didn't. BT> Other than racing in pointy cars, comparing Indy Cars, _on road BT> courses_, under CART (a.k.a. "The NEW Tradition") and Indy Cars under BT> USAC, which was more than 95% ovals, (a.k.a. "The Old Tradition") is an BT> apples and oranges situation. BT> Some like one series and some like the other, and a few apparently BT> like both. I firmly believe that there is room for both. I haven't thrown in the towel on CART. It's a damn exciting series with the exeption of the street circuts, (but that's another story). But also I welcome the IRL, mostly due to the fact that it gives a number of drivers and teams an opportunity that I don't feel they would have within CART. BT> F1, and international-types like CART; WoO, sprint, midget, Silver BT> Crown, and CRA-types probably prefer IRL. This "Best Series" debate is BT> getting periously close to your referenced "My driver is best!" thread. To me my thoughts on this matter have never been a "My Series is Better" kind of thing. My gripe is that so many think it is all about control of the sport and that CART has been the victim in the whole thing. IMO, not true. BT> You made some very valid points, IMHO. Petty doesn't run the sticker on his cars, so there ya' go.
