I agree, Richard knows the rules regarding the contingency decals on the front fender, so there shouldn't even be a debate on whether or not his car will be in the Busch Clash. Michael Waltrip once missed out on the Right Guard Halfway award for not carrying the decal on the car. It was Pennzoil's decision to carry just a few decals on the fender, so they paid the lost prize money to Bahari Racing from their own pocket. There was no debate on whether or not Gillette would give them the money anyway. BT> I'm a Petty follower (Martin Vincent can attest to THAT! Did they continue the race after the red flag (was about lap 150 or so), they called it because of the fog. Nazareth Speedway is only about an hour and half north of us, and a friend of mine got some tickets for us. It sucks more waiting at home through a rain delay. Two of the people in our party went over to a supermarket across teh way and we BBQ'd through the four hour rain delay... was funner than sitting at home channel surfing. We might have only had general admission seats but we had someone hit the wall in front of us 14 laps (or so)into the race (13 laps under caution). Sears truck tapped the wall in front of us shortly after they went green. The two nice crashes took place right in front of us. A friend of mine was coming back from getting some beers and was down on the ground (not more than ten feet away) when they had that nice crash. I wasn't really a supertruck fan before the race (my first in person race) but now I'm a convert. It's worth the break in teh action halfway through the race. Ten minutes seems a lot shorter at the track than sitting at home. JB> Thanks for the reply, but I am a little confused at to why RIchard JB> Petty is not going to be able Bobby Hamilton to race in the CLASH next JB> year at DAYTONA? JB> Just curious, that's all cause I heard from a customer in my store, JB> that there is a reason. I won't say what, cause I want to hear from JB> you. It's been mentioned here since I posted to you, but ... The race for pole winners in February is the *Busch* Clash, with Anheiser-Busch as its primary benefactor. One of the NASCAR-authorized decals which all cars are allowed to wear is the Busch decal (I'm not sure where NASCAR says it is to be displayed this year, but past regulations specified that it be placed to the rear of, and level with the top of the wheel opening, on the front quarter panel). The Busch Clash invites all pole winners *whose cars display the Busch decal. The problem is, because of personal ideology on the part of Richard Petty, the #43 does not display the Busch decal! I _believe the #43 and the #18 are the only cars which do not display the Busch logo. Therefore, Busch has quasi-officially announced that the #43 will not receive an invitation to the Clash in '97. Richard has announced that he will display the Busch logo for the remainder of the season IF A-B invites him to run the Clash. (So much for principles, eh? ) My feeling is (and remember, I'm a BIG Petty fan; as Martin Vincent will verify, Richard let me sit in his car on the starting grid for my last Navy re-enlistment, and Richard stood beside me when I took the oath - Yeah, you might say I'm a Petty fan! ) the #43 doesn't deserve the starting slot in the Clash _*UNLESS*_ he earns another pole, this time wearing the Busch logo! In addition, since Richard compromised his previously-stated princi- ples by capitulating and slapping on the Busch decal, I put him in the same category of whore that I put the majority of the car owners/drivers; anything for a buck! However, that's just one fan's opinion. Whiiiiiiz.......Sploot! "Yeah, cast that plug right where they're nestin', Orlando!" 30 June, 1996 Bob Tanner bobtanner@aol.com ... One worked for Hoosier a couple of years ago, and is quite knowledgeable from an insider's point of view. However, as far as anyone having really unimpeachable inside information, I don't think it's here. But, there are many who have been in, and around professional racing for a decade, or more. Some of us have a pretty good knowledge of racing tradi- tion and history and can pretty accurately isolate frivious rumor from possible fact. Speaking only for myself, I scan r.a.s.n and nascar.com daily, read the Charlotte Observer daily, and have a couple of local acquaintances who are involved the the NASCAR Slim Jim All Pro circuit. There is a lot of garbage floating around out there which isn't fact until it comes to past. i.e.; the recent rumor that Morgan Shepherd was history with the Butch Mock Team. This originated from no one less that Shepherd himself! Another instance was the recent testing of the Lincoln Mark VIII by Penske South and Kranefus-Haas. I heard it locally and saw it on r.a.s.n, however I discounted it as really bizarre. Then, one of the regular posters here on AUTORACE visited me here in Mobile. He stopped by both Penske South and K-H on his way down and both shops had visiting and tours inexplicably closed (for "Security Reasons??") Makes one go, "Hmmmm...???", eh? If you want some _**Unsubstantiated***_rumors to chew on, try these on for size: A: Mark Martin will join Robert Yates next season, easing Irvan out. B: Lowes has left Brett Bodine's team (No rumor; fact!). They will announce shortly a multi-year deal with Richard Childress to sponsor the 2nd RCR car, with Mike Skinner driving. C: Dave Marcis starts his 800th race at Daytona this weekend. To ensure he makes the race and does well, he will be running a front-line RCR restrictor plate engine. D: Next year's schedule ... N. Wilks is G-O-N-E! Richmond's March race will be replaced by Texas, Talladega's summer race will move to the fall, Rockingham's first race will change to a bit later in the year, and a couple more changes. D: The following was gleamed from r.a.s.n today: @FROM :maerpmcc@wwa.com N @SUBJECT:Winston Cup to Split Into Two Divisions? @UMSGID :<31D707B9.5910@wwa.com> @UNEWSGR:01rec.autos.sport.nascar I know this has been rumored before, but the Chicago Sun Times reports today that it is highly possible that the Winston Cup divi- sions will split into two divisions within the next few years! DW said "The creation of two separate yet equal divisions would allow us to bring Winston Cup racing into new territories, which is appealing for our fans and sponsors." The additional series would possibly require beefing up of the BGN series to combine with Winston Cup to create the two series. Then it would split into National and American divisions. Races would run on alternate weekends and each division would run a stand-alone schedule of about 20 races. Combination events involving both divisions would be at Daytona, Talladega, Charlotte and Indianapolis. These should keep you busy for a couple of days. 30 June, 1996 Bob Tanner bobtanner@aol.com ...
