ARJ.doc for v2.55c gives this example: === cut === For example, a chapter archive could be used to keep track of the state of a Windows 3.1 directory. An initial chapter backup could be made of the original Windows 3.1 installation. Then, whenever a new software package is installed, a new chapter snapshot could be taken. ARJ ac winback c:\windows\*.* -r -a1 -jt1 === cut === I find that -jt1 does not work very well with chapter archives; -jt or -jt2 might perhaps be better suited for the above example? Also, the "ac" command uses the environment settings (ARJ.CFG) from the "a" command, even though "ac" is an abbreviation of "u -u2 -jb", is that correct? Cheers, Hans ... RM> Autoexec.Bat: RM> set arj_SW=-v1440 -r -y -d -m1 -jm Sorry I missed your message earlier. The answer to your question is "yes and no". Personally, I would not want to have -r or -d in my env. var.; I also don't recommend the combination of -m1 with -jm. Perhaps -jm1 is a better compromise for the latter? For what it's worth, I point ARJ_SW to my ARJ.CFG file. Here are the contents: === Begin arj.cfg === a -a -s -jm1 -js -jt2 -jyryv -wC:\Temp d -jt -s -jyryv -wC:\Temp e -a -jr -jyryv -wC:\Temp f -a -e -s -jm1 -js -jt -jyryv -wC:\Temp l -jp -jyryv m -a -s -jm1 -js -jt1 -jyryv -wC:\Temp t -i -jp u -a -e -s -jm1 -js -jt -jyryv -wC:\Temp v -jp y -s -jt -wC:\Temp x -a -jr -jt -wC:\Temp === End arj.cfg === Of course, this is just my idea; your preferences might well differ based on your needs. :-) BTW, for those who prefer a GUI, WinZip set to use ARJ as default, in combination with a customized ARJ.CFG as above, will do a great job, especially when spanning multiple disks. What is it you're trying to do with this command line? The "z" parameter, according to the help screen, is usually preceded with a hyphen, making it "-z" on the backside of anything you'd be using it for. In most instances, you'd be using something that might look more like this: arj c -s1 [filename] -z[filename.ext] This command line tells ARJ to add a comment to the file named as [filename], using the [filename.ext] named adjacent to the "-z" parameter. By the way, the "-s1" parameter tells ARJ to maintain the original timestamp on the archive, not update that information based on the date/time you added the comment file, if that's what you're doing. --- # SLMR 2.1a # Windows 95 = Macintosh '89! # PDQWK 2.5 #51 --- * Origin: NetComm BBS 303-730-7045 (1:104/603.0) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 141 ARJ Ref: EBW00000 Date: 07/25/97 From: BOB WALLACE Time: 06:56pm \/To: MORITZ BARTL (Read 1 times) Subj: Unknown ARJ parameter-?
