No, it is not a replacement for ARJ. ARJ is designed for small apps/systems and JAR is designed for the larger ones. Each has its place. We are continuing to enhance ARJ. A new beta release of ARJ is due out soon with more features including a version of REARJ that supports Win95 long filenames. Regards, Robert Jung --- msged 2.07 * Origin: ARJ Support Node. RAR 2.0 for Win32 is better. Generally speaking, in our informal testing for the same amount of CPU time, JAR32 compressed better than RAR 2.0 for Win32. RAR typically required more time to compress the same or better than JAR32 on batches of files such as product directories (Borland C++, etc). On individual files, there is little difference between RAR and JAR, but most archives consist of many files. For backup purposes, RAR does not compare to JAR32. It does not even have a compare function to verify a backup. Regards, Robert Jung --- msged 2.07 * Origin: ARJ Support Node. Is there something like that? No. There are many native OS/2 achivers available for OS/2: RAR/2...fantastic! Zip/UnZip from Info-Zip, PKZip/2 is in second beta. Zoo/2 Arc/2 LHA/2 Arj is dead as far as this OS/2 user is concerned. I keep a copy of the DOS version in use only for Allfix/2 to use to convert inbound files from Arj to RAR or Zip format.
