Produced & edited by Ian Baxter for all radio media enthusiats, DX publications, radio programs & electronic media. If using material please credit original contributor. All times UTC -------------------------------------------------------------------------- What's on 6005kHz shortwave??? 0715 BBC Atlantic Relay. Fair with "English by Radio" px. Oct 8.(Baxter) 0730 Deutschland Radio. Poor in German with time pips for 0730 UTC then news followed by English pops. Oct 8 (Baxter) 0800 NHK Sapporo. Very poor with news. Oct 8 (Baxter) 2100 BBC Seychelles. Good with news in English. Oct 20 (Baxter) SUDAN: Name Change; Sudan National Broadcasting Corporation now becomes the new Sudan National Radio Corporation. Radio Omdurman now provides improved signal on 9200kHz with English from 1800 -1900 UTC. (Baxter) TANZANIA: 5985 reactivated. Heard at very good level in Swahili with world news at 2000 & signing off at 2100 UT with Tanzanian national anthem. 15/10 (Baxter) GEORGIA: 11805kHz 0700 UTC (mid October).10 minute audio interuption to EE broadcast meant end of English program extended past 0700 to 0710 making reception possible of Radio Georgia from 0700 after VOA Kavala signed off. GG program followed until 0737UT then carrier abruptly ended. Then German program noted on 11910KHz & finished at 0740UT. Noted Russian on at 0800 UT on 11910 followed by English at 0830 UT (both broadcasts a 1/2 hour behind usual time). Have only noted this broadcaster on 11805kHz about 4 times during the past 4 months. It seams that either propogation has to be just right or that Radio Georgia at that time is not a regular visitor to the SW airwaves. I'd tend to go with the later. (Baxter) BANGLADESH: Radio Bangladesh name change: Since June 96 now ID's as "Bangladesh Bedar". (Baxter) CAMBODIA: (tentative) Noted on Oct 19 at 1515 UTC on 5985v with commencement of News in English followed by a press review type program about Cambodina people & events. No ID noted. (Baxter) AUSTRALIA: *** HEADLINE - "Australian radio under foreign siege" Radio station 2AY 1494/B104.9 FM & has been the latest in a recent buy up of Australian regional commercial radio stations by British giant 'DMG - Radio Aust.'( a subsidiary of Britians Daily Mail ). The purchase of 2AY follows only a few weeks after Wagga Wagga's 2WG 1152kHz. DMG's showcase of Australian stations include: 2LF Young, 2CS Coffs Harbour,3BO Bendigo, 3MA Mildura, 5SE Mt.Gambier, 2GZ Orange, 2RG Griffith & as mentioned 2WG & 2AY. This leaves the regional population in these areas with no local Australian owned commercial station alternative. In fact in some of these areas the ABC provides the only alternative Australian radio media. One wonders what the Australian Broadcasting Authority (ABA) are doing sitting idle while media in this country is being concentrated into too few hands & cases show, more often than not - these are foreign owned!! The disadvantages here will be media choice, free speech, higher costs for advertisers, Australian job losses, the list goes on. (Australian Media Monitoring Group) 'The Edge' 102.1 FM Wangarratta,Vic. has begun test transmissions. This station is the supplementary licenced station of 1566 3NE. (Baxter) PAPUA NEW GUINEA: Early risers. The first 90mb Kundu Service stations to begin broadcasting in their local mornings are Radio Manus on 3315 & Radio Gulf on 3245kHz at 1930 UTC. PNG will be holding its next election in early 1997. Extended broacasting hours will be expected on election night. This will give DXers from all over world a better oportunity to hear PNG on shortwave. We'll keep you all informed when at date is known. (Baxter) CANADA: CKZN 6160kHz St John's. Heard here on the east coast of Australia from 0800 to 0857 UTC (ie when DW Antigua is off) with very poor signal. Noted with "CBC Radio St. John" IDs at 0830UT then onto world news. Oct 96. According to a "fido_mail" message from Bob Chandler the domestic service of CBC Radio broadcasts the `World Radio Network' from 1am - 6am (local time?) This would explain why I'm hearing broadcasts of such stations as RCI,RFI & BBC prior to the CBC news at 0830UT. (Baxter) USA: WGTG 9400 Now signs off on this frequency at 2153 UTC & commences tranmissions on the new announced frequency of 5085kHz at 2200 UTC. Noted on Oct 15. If you are a bit short on cash go to your nearest Tandy/Radio Shack dealer and buy one from there, I got a PRO-60 from there the other week and its not too bad but its got a nasty gap from about 500-700, but nevermind.
