I agree totally with your observations, but I'm wondering if it is possible to adapt Bill Cheek's scanner memory mods to this radio...I'm not a real technical person when it gets to adding memory but I don't see why it wouldn't work. The only problem I can forsee is that you still might only have 10ch per band, same as now, but you would have a switch to change etween many different sets of 160 memories (did I say that correctly?) --- Maximus/2 3.01 * Origin: River Canyon Rd. Hi Tom, The reason I think the 394 is a GRE unit is the back fold-out schematic (pp 63-64) in the "Radio Shack Service Manual DX-394..." dated 1995 at the bottom of the front page, shows IC201 to be a GRE9351 chip and looking at the 394 manual and the PRO2035/42 manual many of the cosmetic parts are identical...you may have a later version that could be made by Grundig, I don't know... :) --- Maximus/2 3.01 * Origin: River Canyon Rd. Hello, Gregory - Just wanted to say that I appreciate any and all DX postings, whether they be shortwave, AM Broadcast Band, or whatever. AM Broadcast Band DXing is alive and well, and not a futile waste of time for thousands of avid DXers, including myself. As a matter of fact, rather than look at the congestion on the AM band as making it not worth trying, I look at it as a challenge, and have been rewarded with 1200-1300 different stations logged on the AM Band - including all 50 states (plus Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands), 7 Canadian provinces, and over 20 countries. Two of these countries were Vatican City and Saudi Arabia - so although it may not be an everyday occurrence, TransAtlantic reception on the AM Broadcast Band is indeed possible. I am in Alabama and don't use fancy equipment, so keep on chasing the AM BCB DX, and let us know what you catch. Incidentally, if you're interested in joining a DX club with emphasis on the AM Broadcast Band, send one 32 cent stamp to The International Radio Club of America (IRCA), P.O. KFI has also been heard here (Alabama) already this season. The low sunspost have definitely been a plus, as last DX season was the best I've had as far as exotic catches.
