Je> makes sense don't it? No, it doesn't! Think about it! Palpatine was not a stupid person, despite what people say about him. He would not invite Skywalker to kill him, if he thought that there would be no way to stop him. This is called simple human self-preservation. So, do you think that Luke could simply use the Force to flick on his saber and twirl it around, without Palpatine havig some sort of defense against it? Remember, Vader, though he wanted the Emperor destroyed realized the time was not right,(he wanted Luke on his side first, which eant fighting with him, and forceing hime to release his anger and follow the Dark Path), so he would have protected the Emperor at this time, whether Luke attacked directly or remotley with the Force. Vader was stronger than Luke, or at least more thoroughly trained. The Emperor was not defensless himself, remember the lighteing bolts, which threw Luke across the room, and left him at the Emperor's mercy. So I thik that your points are invalid and need to e rethought out. -=|Steve Bolen|=- ... "I am Flatulus of Borg. Why the heck did the emperor tell Luke throughout the light saber duel MS>that giving in to his hatred whould finally turn him to the dark side ? MS>Had he not done so, Luke would not have become suspicious (at least I MS>think so, for most of Luke's doubts arose when the Emperor was laughing MS>like mad) and would have unleashed his hatred upon poor Darth. JD> Well, the obvious answer is that the Audience had to know this... JD> Stupid but true... Frankly, they could have easily written in a scene JD> between the Emperor and Vader in which this is discussed and it would JD> have added tension...but I guess they weren't clever enough! Have you guys ever been in a fight, with someone you really hate? It's not o easy to stop beating the hell out of him, just beacuse someone on the side is telling you that your going to get in trouble for fighting. I think it was a similar situation. Once Luke's blood started to boil, it woulda taken a 10 mile iceberg to cool it down again. Besides, it's kinda hard to stop if the OTHER guy keeps comin at ya. IE. Vader. Remember? Vader was attacking Luke relentlessly. What's Luke gonna say: Gee, duh, go ahead and cut off my head. Not likely. The fact that GL created a universe so captivating that people worldwide are discussing it 20 years after it was originally finished, is ust more proof on how clever he is. I'd like to see you guys do something like that, instead of just talking and criticizing. ... Here's my 2 cents on that, even though I don't KK> know if I agree. When Vader was about to kill Obi-Wan, Obi-Wan said KK> something like "If you strike me down, I'll become more powerful than KK> you could imagine." Maybe the Emperor let himself get killed so that KK> he could fuse with the Dark Side and become one with pure evil. KK> I don't know. That's my take on it. Actually, that's a pretty interesting theory. But I would have to disagree. You see, I don't think the Emperor was suicidal, just cocky! I'm sure he never intended to die. If you know anything about military tactics, you would have to admit that Palpatine's were actually quite good. In fact, if you would think about the whole Endor situation harder, you would probably realize, hat the Empire WOULD have completly crushed the rebellion, if not for the Ewoks. They were the only thing that turned the tide at the battle of Endor's moon. If, like is so typical with the Empire, they had committed genocide on the Ewoks (you must know the Emperor is completely prejudice to non-humans, and e thinks of non-humaniod races along the same lines Hitler thought about Jews), then Han and his team would have never destroyed the shield generator, and he Rebellion, including the Falcon would have been completly annialated between the Death Star and that huge whack of Star Destroyers. Although the Emperor was powerful with Dark Side of the Force, as Yoda once said: "Always in otion is the future." So the Emperor most likely didn't see the insignificant woks as a threat. Besides, I don't think the Emperor's goal was to become One ith anything, I think he just simply wanted to be the most feared, most powerful person in the universe. The fact that he was a master of the Dark Side was just an added bonus. That's the way I see, but I'd be interested on hearing other people's theories on this. May The Force Be With You! -=|Steve Bolen|=- P.S. I apologize if my reference to Hitler and the Jews offened anyone, I as using it merely as a reference point, not to make fun. ...
