KL> Does anyone know what this line means? Why does Threepio utter it? IMHO, this is the first joke in the SW trilogy, and therefore one of my favorites. (I discount the visual joke when Artoo and Threepio walk through blaster crossfire just like that.) We can hardly see the Star Destroyer, but Threepio's sensors apparently are still able to analyse the Blockade Runner's hull. Make me grin every time. (Read 0 times) Subj: Star Wars : SE Hi Barry. BLJ> the upcoming high definition televisions (aka HDTVs) are supposed to BLJ> be shaped just like a movie screen. ... which is exactly what they want you to believe. ("They" being the people who want to sell 16:9/HDTV televison sets, not the CIA or Majestic- 12. ;-) ) Movies are shown in the cinema in one of two aspect ratios (by choice of the director) nowadays: 1.85:1 and 2.35:1, the latter being called Cinema- Scope. If you do a little math, you'll find that 16:9 is only 1.77:1. That means for 1.85:1 movies you only lose about 4 per cent of the picture on the sides, but for 2.35:1 movies -- like _Star Wars_ -- you still lose a fourth of the picture. (Which is better than the 43 per cent you lose on normal 4:3 TV sets, but still too much for my taste.) Sorry, I just have to intervene when I see that someone believes that 16:9 is 'cinema format.' :-) It isn't. There alone we -> find out what Obi-Wan really wants AND that he created the Death -> Star. And then we could go on about how Obi-Wan makes poor, innocent -> Ponda Baba attack Luke like that, only so Obi-Wan himself could have -> a reason to chop someone's arm off. That was just one example of his constantly evil intentions..... and what about the scene where he gets Chewie's agreement to ship them? knowing Ben's past history and his attempted genocide of the Wookies, the original script makes a lot of sense: Ben walks into the cantina- Ben: "You there, wookie maggot! Are you a pilot?" Chewie: "AROOOORGH!" Ben: "Don't even try, little one." (smirking) "I could rip your head off without looking sideways." (smiles, as blood begins to trickle from Chewbacca's nostrils) Ben walks over to Luke- Ben: "Chewbacca here says he may have a ship..." if only we'd been able to see this in the theatre... -John --- QScan/PCB v1.19b / 01-0154 * Origin: MicroLink BBS * Dinuba, CA 209-591-8753 (1:214/80) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 138 STAR WARS Ref: ECE00005 Date: 08/09/97 From: JOHN SNYDER Time: 04:11am \/To: BRANDON WOLGAST (Read 1 times) Subj: Leia -> To some people I guess. =) Not I.
