I've had this nagging at me for awhile now, and I've never been able to find an answer that really satisfies me. Some I have heard make some sense, but I was wondering what people here thought. What is the deal with the word/name "Mon" in Star Wars? We have Ephant Mon, Mon Mothma, and the Mon Calamari, and probably more that I'm forgetting. Even if it means something in a different language (French, Russian, etc.) it seems redundant and actually kinda stupid to use it this many times. I guess it could mean "the." The Mothma, perhaps (hm, more discussions) "Mothma" is actually a title. It kinda makes sense. And then The Calamari, but Ephant The doesn't fit. Unless in his culture they reverse it. He could be The Ephant. Or Mon may not even be "The" it could be just something used more than once that means different things, but I don't like that which is why I ask this question in the first place. . If it weren't for the SW books that have been coming out since 1991, I would never have had renewed interest in starwars. In fact, it's what got me buying the THX Trilogy, and when it comes out, perhaps the Special Edition trilogy as well. As for the quality of the book's? well, I think the novels are ok, at least the author's work together to make thier books fit together in, as Kevin Anderson mentioned, a "alternate timeline". Oh, and if you are interested, here in Canada I just bought yet another new starwars novel titled "Star Wars: The Paradise Snare", which is a new Han Solo trilogy series, starting from when Han was a child, way before the movies.
