"The crew is safe after a harrowing 75 hours aboard the vessel Umbrina II. After tear down, they boarded on 18 May, 0800z, for the 30 hour trip to Mauritius. About two hours out (around the Sudan Bank), two weather systems influenced the seas to extreme proportions. The vessel captain wisely decided to anchor in safe harbor, near the most Southern island in the St. Brandon archipelago. Although, they had adequate supply of water, the sea provide the food source. Finally, after the seas subsided, they arrived safely in Mauritius, about 1300z, May 20th...." Gerry/W6TER The crew issued the following press release to the media, in Mauritius: "An international group of amateur radio operators has successfully completed a "DXPedition" to the St. Brandon archipelago. The group of "Ham" operators from Mauritius, Switzerland, USA, Japan and Israel undertook this challenging adventure to confirm radio propagation predictions from remote St. Brandon to other parts of the World. Using the call sign 3B7RF, they contacted over 53,000 hams throughout the World. No ham operation of proportions has ever taken place from Mauritius or its outer islands. The DXPedition was conducted with the approval of the Mauritius Telecom Authority which issued the radio license. Assistance for the twelve days of radio operation on St. Brandon was provided by the Raphael Fishing Company, the crew of the Umbrina II vessel and Mr. Jacky Mandary, 3B8CF." 5B4, CYPRUS.
