Hi, Nathan; NB> For Christmas, my wife bought me a Radio Shack "super accurate NB> auto-set digital clock" (cat. # 63-970) that sets itself to the NIST NB> time broadcasts. I was wondering what frequency it actually uses. I NB> know WWV broadcasts on 5, 10, 15, and 20 MHz, and WWVB transmits on 60 NB> KHz. Judging from the fact that it uses a ferrite rod antenna, and NB> that reception is better at night, night, and that, as far as I know NB> WWV doesn't transmit any type of "packet," "telemetry" or "compuerter NB> data" on their signals, I believe it is actually picking up WWVB. The NB> owners manual says "WWV," but it doesn't make any mention of frequency. NB> Any info you can offer will be greatly appreciated. Actually, WWV USED to transmit an ASCII code which gave the second, minute, hour and day of the year, (1-365/366), which sounded like a buzzing for part of a minute once an hour. This has been discontinued, however CHU, (The Canadian official time staion), does have this. WWVB at 60 KHz does carry this information, (I am not sure of the exact mode used, but it is digital), and there are at least two different manufacturers of clocks which receive these signals and use them set the clocks with split-second precision. WWVB is also used as a frequency standard by many services. A TV station which I used to work for had a strip chart recorder that compared WWVB with the master oscillator of the TV transmitter to verify that all their frequencies, (aural and visual carriers and color subcarrier), were all within tolerance. This could also be used by Hams to verify their frequencies, and there may be some Hams using this source. Happy QSOs to KB4CWR DE KB9QPM Ivy ... It says NK>it's useful for Ham,CB,Amat.Radio Operators??? Can somebody tell me NK>what how this Diode works? dose it absorb light or emit something dark? The DD-302 (Dark Diode model 302) is an outgrowth of research begun many years ago by none other than Edison himself. It seems that while Edison was developing his electric light bulb, he discovered that light bulbs actually do not emit light, instead, they suck in dark. You may test this by simply turning on a "light" bulb in a dark room. Notice how the dark is rapidly taken up by the dark sucker. In some places, some of the dark will remain, particularly when objects between the "light" bulb and the dark block the dark so it cannot get to the "light" bulb. The fact that "light" bulbs actually suck in dark is easily evident even to an untrained observer. Simply look at a burned-out "light" bulb. Notice it has become dark inside. This is some of the dark which the bulb has absorbed during normal operation. The majority of the dark is sent back over the power lines to the power generating station, where it is put back into the atmosphere so it may be used again. This fact may be proven by simply observing the smokestacks at the power plant and noting the dark being emitted from them. Ralph --- * QMPro 1.53 * Sure, when... OINK FLAP OINK FLAP...
