I have access to vol 2 of WFT and did a quick survey of the names you listed. On ARBUCKLE there were about 110 individuals. John and Samuel from VA m. respectively 1786 may 4 Hannah PEYTON and 1787 jun 28 Barsheba PEYTON in Lincoln co TN. No other VA connections apparent. On CLOYD ca 35 individuals. Found the only reference to Botetourt co. David CLOYD m Margaret CAMPBELL. On POAGE ca 140 individuals mostly in one database. Robert POAGE, b. VA, 1752-1810 m. 1782 Mary Hopkins. d Ashland KY. Both the CLOYD and POAGE data seem to be referencing to the pages in a book but I couldn't determine what book. Both BARNETT [ca 1020 individuals] and LAWRENCE [ca 1850 individuals] were too numerous to include in my "quick" survey. Does any of this help? Any matches. We don't have any connection to any of these surnames, but thought we might be of some assistance. WE are trying to database the MERRILL surname nationwide. So far we have surveyed WFT vol 1,2,8-13 for MERRILL's [160-200 databases with MERRILL per disc]. We found lots of errors but gathered a lot of information [of unknown quality] about individuals we didn't have in our 40,000+ male MERRILL database [plus wives and daughters]. Hopefully it will provide some links to allow us to help folks trace their MERRILL lineage. I appreciate information from any source. The very first item I viewed with my family name on it was a bill of sale for a piece of property. Since they didn't have word processors, spell checkers and all that kind of good stuff back in the 18th century it was "writ by hand." The name of our family member was mentioned about three times in the document and was spelled differently in each instance. At the bottom of the document there was a box for the signature and it showed the letter X and underneath was the notation "His Mark." Not everyone is a perfect speller such as you are. ...
