TX Thank you for the KEITH marriages. I collaborated with about 25 others on the gathering of data for a KEITH book, starting three or four years ago. The book was just published by a Larry Keith of Houston, Texas and I have received my copies. The marriages you sent are welcome additions to my family tree because my wife's great grandfather is the George Washington Keith who married Naoma Brumley in 1850 which was on your report. I don't know what the source is for your data, but I have been stuck for 30 years on finding the parents of my own great grandfather JOHN CLIFFORD HOYT. According to National Archive military records he was born in 1818 in Litchfield CT, joined the Army in 1837 at Rochester NY and served in the Seminole Indian War. Forty years ago an aged Aunt told me his parents were SAMUEL HOYT and AMELIA EDWARDS. I have never been able to find a trace of them. If he was born in 1818 then they were probably married prior to that date. Does your source show marriages that early? Most likely they were married in CT. Thank you. This is not my line (I'm researching Mills) but I have visited the Fairfield Historical Library in Fairfield near Southport, CT. One of the items I came away with was several pages copied from "History of the Mills Family of Old Fairfield and Westport by Cyrus Sherwood Bradley of Southport CT. This was found in the vertical files of the library with the help of one of the staff. It is a manuscript, undated, but looks like about 1920-30 vintage. A quick perusal of the pages 32 & 33 shows the following. It may not be your line but it was interesting for me to pull out of the file. "Daniel, (Mills) the fourth married, Sept 4, 1803 Charry Piersons, (Greens Farms Parish Register) He lived my Grandfather told me, on the south side if (sic) the highway leading from Hulls Farms to Sherwoods Brook, now Browns brook. His house stood in the edge of the swamp west of the corner leading to Mill Hill. I, learn from the Journal of Hull Sherwood, that he built it in May, 1814. His wife died july 2 1816 and was buried July 3, 1816. The mother of hull Sherwood watched with her and Hull himself helped about the farm work. He was an episcopalian and had Abby, Jane, Daniel, and George Baptised at Trinity, March 16, 1810." (at least 2nd or 3rd cousins!) I started researching Mary FITCH when I thought she was in my line, but I discovered that she wasn't the one, I got rid of what I had on her! Seems to me, though, that she connects back to royalty (as many of the early immigrants did). I know there is quite a bit of info on her out there- you just have to locate someone who has it!! RR> Any help? YES a LOT of help but now I'm more confused than ever. I have been trying to follow the LDS Family History centers information and it is such a MESS. They have mothers married to sons and children of wife "a" showing as wife b, and c etc. I thought I knew who I was decended from now I'm not really sure. I don't have a computer of my own nor a genealogy program that I can enter data. Hopefully next year if all goes well I will finally have my own computer. In the meantime I have been gathering information but it is all over the place. I have been putting the information in a ring binder by family groups from the Family Center information and am finding it is all a real mess. Being in Canada I don't have access to data like you would have in your libraries. I requested a book called History and Genealogy of the Families of Old Fairfield and it had to come all the way from the Laramie County library in Cheyenne, Wyoming. I never even got to see that book as my library is in a small town and the main library is quite a long way away and the Laramie library wouldn't let them send it to my library so they said they would photocopy what I wanted. I was in a rush for an answer when my library asked me what names I was interested in so said SHERWOOD, FITCH, and BURR. What a mistake :( Too much to photocopy so only sent me some of the index (drool) and a few pages on my three names. Would I love to get my hands on that book. I am going to see if I can't get it through the LDS family history center sometime next year if they have it on microfilm. Thank you so much for your information it sure helps. --- * QMPro 1.50 42-0174 * I got everything but the part after "Now listen closely --- WILDMAIL!/WC v4.12 * Origin: The Yak Shak!
