I wasn't aware of this. I haven't sent any of the newer versions anywhere, although I routinely make them JIC. Hmmm ... I've been unhappy with some of the other major blunders, but hadn't noticed this one. Remember back when you turned on the machine you'd find the setup just like you left it, far removed from the dumb defaults? The newer versions get stupid over a lunch break, and need to be re-trained. Family Origins has made dramatic improvements in recent versions, but even so it sadly remains well back in the dust left by this dog. I've looked at several others, and I judge each to be deficient for my purposes; Broderbund's Family Tree Maker for Windows is clearly 'better' IMNERHO, but still has these and other really serious problems. CT> Word to the wise. Test all GEDCOMs before sending them out CT> to another researcher and make sure that they work. That's good advice, and I wish I had seen it long ago. Maybe I'll just stop sending GEDCOMs at all; there doesn't seem to be much demand for them around here anyhow. Got another batch of Christmas cards today in response to those 48 FGS I sent out. Still only have the one partial reply, and I found some serious errors in it on closer examination. Check that ... there was one other brief blurb of interest to the genealogist in me: one cousin, who has 4 sons and 2 daughters, wrote a note in her card that "One of my kids got married this summer, and we had a great time at the wedding." Which one? To whom? Who knows! Fair winds. And following seas. Do you just put in the surname and get all the hits for all states or do you have to put in the surname and state or must you enter county for each query? What states does your CD cover? Is it for all counties in those states or just selected counties? Is it just selected marriages or all early marriages recorded at the court house up to 1850? Does your CD have Indiana? Specifically Putnam Co. and adjacent counties of Montgomery, Parke, Clay, Owen, Morgan, Hendricks and Boone. If so could you see if there were any WEATHERLY marriages there? It wasn't long after that WILSON moved to Monroe and Appanoose Cos, IA. Adjacent counties would be Wayne, Lucas,Marion, Mahaska, Wapello, and Davis Cos. Also Putnam and Schuyler Cos., Missouri. Are there any WEATHERLY marriages in these counties. Well this is probably asking too much of you. Where should I look to borrow or buy one of those CD's and how much do you think it would cost now? In my notes I found that the marriagge for Howell PARKER m.1787 Elizabeth WEATHERLEY in Guilford Co., NC is listed on CD229. But note the variation in spellling. I wonder howmany ways this name is spelled. Can you search by soundex code? Thanks for all your help. James R. You see sharing information and helping one another is so much easier than trying to do this stuff alone. I noticed something last night while I was reading over some of my genealogy and it made me stop and wonder.I have an 1850 Shelby Co.Alabama census and it list my WILLIAM WALKER is/was married to REBECCA ISBELL who was the daughter of ZACHARIAH ISBELL born 1790. Anyway this Rebecca was suppose to be married to William Walker. Now they had the following children. JULIA, JOSEPH, ANN, GEORGE, ?FEMALE (CAN'T READ IT) and SARAH WALKER. Next on the census as I'm sure you along with ever other ISBELL researcher has found appears one ZACHARIAH ISBELL age 60 born in Georgia with his wife FRANCES ISBELL age 50 born in GEORGIA too. Next door to ZACHARIAH ISBELL is ISAAC GOUSS. Next door to Isaac appears GODFREY ISBELL, living next to GODFREY is ISAAC ISBELL. Why am I telling you this I ask myself? Good question, I'm wondering if anyone knows for sure if this GODFREY ISBELL born around 1810-1811. Was indeed JOHN GODFREY ISBELL, son of ZACHARIAH, are GODFREY JEFFERSON ISBELL born @ 1811, son of JAMES MILTON ISBELL born 1784. This James was the son of GODFREY ISBELL born @ 1748. Lord, too many ISBELL'S with the same commen name and birthdates too close together. Another reason I ask, JOHN GODFREY ISBELL was said to have married LUCY GOSS/ GOUSS, and ISAAC GOUSS is living next to ZACHARIAH. However it looks like the census shows him with wife ? JANE instead of LUCY. If you know which one of the GODFREY'S for sure this is please enlighten me. If not maybe several of us can work on this and come up with the correct answer. It just might hold the key to one of our missing links. Got to run now, please pass this along to other ISBELL researchers and see what they come up with. I've out of practice and it will probably take me awhile to figure this one out on my own. Can't wait to get the ISBELL package from you. Thanks in advance, )\/(arian P.S.
