SR> Make your own fuel ?? sounds risky..you must do a lot of bench SR> runs to make sure that the equation is perfect or else.....engine SR> failure of some sort. Making your own fuel is not so difficult - I used to make it in 55-gal quantities for my own club up to several years ago. A good "sport" mix is 20 % oil, 10 % nitromethane, and 70 % methanol (also known as wood alcohol or methyl alcohol). The oil content is critical, any less than 18 % will ruin an engine, anything higher than 22 % won't run very well. Nitromethane is hard to get now since there are no US suppliers - the last I bought was obtained from a fuel mfg - he gets it from Germany. I suggest using a 50/50 mixture of castor oil and high quality synthetic for hot climates (like ours in SC) but you can get by with all synthetic in colder climates where the engine heat can be easily dissipated. We live only 75 miles from a fuel mfg, so the club usually buys it in 55-gal quantites for about $6.00 US per gallon. I use big engines (.90 and bigger) which CONSUME A LOT of fuel so this price doesn't hurt too much. TTYL - Roger ... Maybe Del is playing with the net again trying to make it look more like a nine. Then again, depending on what times and when our respective BBS's log in to down load new stuff. Kristian, My experience so far with helicopters is somewhat limited ( only on the 2nd summer flying it ), I have no real problems with the trimming, it's basically fly by the seat-of-your-pants technique ( ha, ha, ha :) ), No, once she gets off the ground I bring her up about 10 - 15 feet to give myself enough room for error ( we're no supposed to, but I learned this from flying planes ) then once I'm satisfied I bring her down low ( a few feet , or eye level )..as for gyro's. ( I don't have one ) the LMH-100 doesn't hace an electronic gyro, it's mechanical ( more or less like a fly bar system ) they say it stabilizes better than an elec.gyro..lucky me. The flying clubs are expensive..( like I said ) for 1 year the price is 130$ ( canadian ) about $100 U.S.-------> MONEY..LOTS OF MONEY..so I'd rather fly when I want where I want without the huge price. I guess if you do install the gyro the wrong way you'll get a wicked tail swing...I get somewhat of a tail swing when I throttle up or down due to the torque of the engine and the rotor speed which turns the gyro ! Also I might have a slight advantage of having a non-collective ) fixed pitch blades )..less tweeking when I fly..although forward landings are fun to master !!! If you have the patience to spend time reading and understanding the fundamentals of heli's you'll have no problem being a self-taught pilot. It really isn't all that hard..just confidence and practice, practice, ractice.. Take the time you have just to start her up, and hop around..but don't throttle up cause you won't have the slightest idea how to get her down----> crash = MONEY !! . Go out and have fun, to be a good heli pilot ( I heard ) it takes up to 5 good flying years to be able to master the craft...so time and practice seems to be the answer.. Tell ya the truth..the first time I took my heli out..it took me over 2 hours just to hop it around..I throtled up just enough to get her light on the landing gear ( training gear I made ) and watched how it reacted, I triead all controls , front, back and tail swings..to get used to the controls and reaction time..( heli's react slightly after you input controls..so don't over do it ) then I got courageous enough to bounce it up and down ( one or two inches )..now I'm capable of keeping it up about 30 - 45 second ( seems forever ) but a great feeling......people love it and are facinated by it...as I am each time.. Got to go...keep me posted if you want.. ( if your on the I-Net my e-mail adress --> steffrou@aol.com KEEP"ER UP AND UNDER CONTROL....YOU CAN DO IT...IF YOU REALLY WANT TO !! The sensiticity is -> something that has to be tested out ,isn't it? This is true, the only way to set the senitivity is to put it in the air... But at least you will know that it is going the right direction before you do it. From my own experience, I have found that it is much easier to handle it if it's over or under sensative as long as it's going the right direction. I usually set the sensativity to about 60% to start and that seems to work pretty good for me. Happy Hovering! They use glass and all manner of resins on the real stuff. Typically you can get what you need for less than going through a hobby supplier since the boat world is where they get it. A big name in the boat supplies is Petit which just happens to be the ones who make the Hobby Poxy line of glues and paints. Since flying is dead in my area I'm working on boats now. Currently building a Dumas, 40 foot Coast Guard utility boat. It's 37" long and will use two electric motors. Not sure what size, my local shop got them and the gear boxes from Robbe. I think they're 500's. Anyway, here's my two cents worth. TTYL --- * QReader 1.10 * UNREGISTERED EVALUATION VERSION --- * Origin: Camden Forum, Camden SC, 803-432-0641 (1:360/9)
