Also, since the motor has two twisted pairs instead of 5+ leads it leads me to believe what he really has is a DC motor. One pair being the field and one pair being the armeture. If the motor has brushes that would be a dead giveway. If not it could be a 400 cycle motor from some kind of aircraft. Without some hint of what the motor expects it is a waste of time unless you just want to make it run for the fun of it. Then it doesn't matter how much time or money you spend. Ian, have you checked the resistance of the wires? Are the pairs interconnected? Within 20 miles are Mike's, Roy's, Holt's, and a couple of others that I don't remember. While this is nice, it is also true that it is impossible to have a flying field all to yourself and probably not even a frequency to yourself. RM> are HEAVY, HEAVY, HEAVY - I'd suggest at least a 2-cycle 90 or perhaps MC> Is this the Gold Edition you are talking about? Yes, they were the Gold Edition - both built within the past year - don't recall the exact weight, but "ready-to-fly", each was probably in the 9-10 lb. range - both were built with retracts (which do not work well on our bumpy hay-field site) which were later removed. MC> What does it weigh? Since it uses the US wing I didn't think it MC> would be heavy. My building is rather straight-forward, true to design, and without any modifications (unless customer requests), covered with Super Coverite and painted with one filler coat (well sanded) and 2 or 3 coats of polyurethane enamel. The pony is much heavier construction design and larger than the TF Corsair - which, BTW, flies like a dream - it's much harder to build, however, with its gull-shaped wing. If you're thinking about a TF warbird, I'd suggest the F4U rather than the Mustang. TTYL - Roger ... Of course then you'll have an over-reved engined, rop KK>dust everywhere, and will this flesh thing include bugs? I read a very good article in the March 1996 issue of Model Airplane News. It talks about props, how to balance, etc. It mentioned about how the author saw a picture of a plane with a large circular-saw blade bolted to the propeller shaft. That is a very clever way and highly effective statement on how dangerous propellers should be viewed. The article does not gear more toward wooden or plastic just more geared toward proper balance, visibility and safety.
