Stepper motors work like AC motors but usually have 4 to 5 windings. Each winding is turned on in sequence and each time the power is moved to another winding the shaft of the motor moves one step. The "driver" I am talking about is the electronic control that "steps" to a different winding every time it recieves a pulse from an external control of some type. Usually you have one common wire and a seperate lead for each coil. It sounds like yours only has two completely seperate coils. Probably more trouble than it is worth. The name plate data you gave me gives no hint of what the motor needs. You need voltage and current numbers to even start. Its not really nessecary with a mechanical speed control, although it certainly couldn't hurt...but if you upgrade to an esc, it will be nessecary, along with schokkity diodes (or however its spelled).. beavis --- GEcho 1.10+ * Origin: Oz 2o3-792-7423 9 Nets - 1+ GIG (1:141/1095) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 131 RADIO CONTROL Ref: D1D00000 Date: 01/07/96 From: IAN MACAULAY Time: 07:54am \/To: MARK CORONA (Read 5 times) Subj: stepper motors 06 Jan 96 17:11, Mark Corona was yackin' to Ian Macaulay and said: MC> Usually you have one common wire and a seperate lead for each MC> coil. So if I pulsed 4 times the motor would move forward 4 steps and the reverse on a reverse polarity or something. MK> if it takes on the design of the Losi XX, do you think that Associated MK> will make a new gas truck to take the design of the T2? i thknk that I saw a Losi GTX this week. It is very similar to the RC10GT, nothing like the prototypes shown in the magazines. It uses LXT, not XXT front suspension parts, the XXT front suspension would have WAY too much steering according to Losi. My own experience with my 10GT confirms this. If Associated made a 10GT-2, it would stink if based on the current T-2. The T-2 has massive amounts of steering compared to the 10T. Maybe because of the weight distribution, maybe due to something else, the 10GT already has too much steering. Last summer, I could toss the GT's tail around sharp corners like there was no tommorrow. We actually had to dial steering OUT of the truck! The GTX I saw came with a new version of the Dynamite TNT .12. It seems that Dynamite has responded to all the complaints about their .12 and fixed them in this version. The new engine comes with an all-new carb, beefed-up connecting rod, and sealed bearings. I think I'll try one of these engines this year! See ya, Barry ...
