I didn't get any response to my message about this conference being available via www.msoasis.com or about the summer camp plans. Today, we shipped my son (the oldest) off for a week at BSA Hood Scout Reservation and daughter (second oldest) off for a week at GSA Camp Wahi. The staff was excited about it being the last week of camp. I know that I should have pulled the traier up to camp; gear was stacked higher than cab of truck and hanging over the sides. Big problem was one boy brought a roll away bed and another brought his mountain bike. Give me a call or email me before thursday morning and I will try to give my Phlimont list. Brian ... DB> This evening, we will travel to BSA Hood Scout DB> Reservation for family dinner and campfire program. DG> DG> Where is this camp located? About an hour south of Clinton/Jackson near Hazelhurst, MS DB> I'm thinking of hitting up Subway for takeout for DB> the family meal. DG> DG> Sounds like a good idea! DG> Subway was closed for the 4th (our Independence Day), so we got Arby's meals. I'm hooked on their Beef'N'Cheddar sandwich. Paul's troop won the Best Campsite Award. The Scouters won the staff vs. leader volleyball tournament. There was also a water carnival, wood carving contest (somehow no boys entered???), eating food contests (pizza and everything), best spirit, troop had "Best Tent", apple peeling and cobbler cookoff. They individual boys did their swimming tests, Davy Crockett classes (first aid, hiking, camp craft/ nature). Paul earned his Art, Leatherwork, and Swimming Merit Badges. The campfire featured an OA Call-Out. Paul had so much fun, I'm having trouble getting him out of his uniform! DG> I'm getting my programme together for next year. I'm DG> just in the early planning stages now. Hood *always* has ample space. The regional director has called it the "premere" camp of the southeast. A neat trip would be to ride the City of New Orleans Amtrack train down from Chicago - it stops in Hazlehurst. Local transportation to the camp can be arranged! I ran across a maintenance man at one of my plants who says you can catch about 100 8" trout from a boat at Camp Hood lake. He's offered to let me follow him out in Sept. Troop 88 will probably not summer camp at Hood next year. This was the 3rd year in a row and the Scoutmaster thinks another site is needed to keep the boy's interest.
