And you still haven't suggested a thing to make me desire Win95 on my system. I've never felt any need for an office suite, most of which include a ton of crap I'd never use. Even at work, we don't make use of a sizable percentage of the suites we have. I don't need all that bloatware. I'm not a graphics artist, but if I felt a need for a major graphics app, I'd probably look at ColorWorks (which I've heard good things about from every source but you). I can play Quake, etc. all I want just fine. I have no need for downgrading and destabilizing my system by attacking it with Win95. Might be different, if I did my software shopping at Wal-Mart and needed bragging rights down at the local playground. LK> At least it's there! Is there a CAD program like this for OS/2!? In fact, there's even one included in the Application Sampler. That I haven't ever bothered to look at it may be taken as an indication of my "need" for an office suite. I've seen Win95. I've installed Win95. I will likely be installing it again in the near future, at work. From there I just opened a DOS prompt EJ> each OS and installed and ran a small variety of my DOS programs. I get it, you test how fast win95 runs compared to OS/2 by comparing the speed of the UNOPTIMIZED DOS shell (which by default isn't even FULL SCREEN!) and from that you came out with the idea that not only is OS/2 faster with DOS, but also with windows 3.1 support.. VERY INTERESTING! Next time, check out your CONFIG.SYS (initially blank) and AUTOEXEC.BAT (very close to it). As well as the DOS session settings. I'm sure your DOS Shell under OS/2 is optimized for max. speed, wouldn't you expect to do the same under Win95!?!? (Which is set to run at 50% speed by default). If you took all the above into consideration, you will see how much faster Win95 is. And if you took into consideration HPFS, you'll see that on many machines, OS/2 is actually faster WITHOUT HPFS. (Depending on what machine and how much ram) EJ> faster, and that was with each OS using it's "factory defaults". Not Who the hell uses FACTORY DEFAULT!?!? Does a BBS sysop use the "factory defaults" for their program or the "factory defaults" on the comm port drivers!? I sure as hell don't hope that this is the way you judge things in the world! By default, win95 DOS shell is a lot slower than it should be (set at 50% sensativity, not full screen, etc.. etc..) It is the win31 support which is optimized, which you OBVIOUSLY didn't test! My conclusion : BIASED TEST, BIASED TEST, BIASED TEST! EJ> running DOS apps, it's either bogging the rest of the system it's on EJ> to a crawl so the DOS app can run, or bogging the DOS app down so the EJ> rest of the system can run. Setting the idle sensativity to nothing doesn't bogg down the system. It just gives it as much priority as any other task running under Win95, don't you want that? Don't you want your important DOS tasks to have as much priority as any of your win31 or win95 applications!? (They never get MORE, the way you can do it under OS/2 using Session Priority, you can only do AS MUCH). But it seems that your tests were biased, and unsuficient.. just the type of test you would expect from sombody who a) had their mind set before comencing it or b) Didn't know anything about win95, and hence killing his own tests in the process. EJ> app of any kind that interests me on the shelves. Obviously I'm not EJ> to know much about freeware available for win95. Keeping track of EJ> for an OS I don't use would be silly.
