I use Terminate. I used to call this one board all the time, but now, for some reason, when I call it, it starts coming up black and white and says ANSI not detected. Then it goes,"Enter your FIRST and LAST Name:" Then, my computer starts sending a whole bunch of crap and I can't even type my name in. I usually have ANSI. No dreaming necessary for working that one out. You are ignoring the fact that the specification didn't change between the final draft (which those mfrs implemented) and formal ratification. You are purposly ignoring that fact, Richard. Supervisior date is 01/05/95 Supervisior rev is 061-6.0 DSP date is 31/03/95 DSP rev is 11.3 The modem will lock up within the first 10 minutes when connected at 21600 and with error correction on. Sometimes it will also lock up when connected at other speed with error correction on too, but only once in a blue moon. What I mean by lock up is that the modem doesn't seems to receive anything anymore. If anyone send anything over the net via a ppp link, the receiver of a tcpip packet always send a confirmation. When the modem locks up, I don't get any confirmation at all, the send indicator still flashes but it doesn't seems to receive the confirmation. Strange but currently, I seems to be able to minimize the chance of connecting at 21600 by: a) turn off compression and b) in windows 95, reduce the size of the FIFO buffers to minimum What is the best way to go about isolating the problem? I have a 486 MB with integrated parallel, serial ports and ide controllers. TIA ... Setting up a USR "just right" consists of nothing more than using AT&F1 as your init, using hardware flow control and a "locked" port in your comm program. I don't believe Hyperterminal "sent a whole bunch of crap" even though Terminat may have. The BBS is checking for a response to an ANSI code, and isn't getting it. That usually means your comm program is set for something other than ANSI. I don't believe Hyperterm supports ANSI. I figure it's a lot of static on line 1, and since my cheapo modem isn't error-correcting, there is no way for it to cope with the noise. I prefer Telix for DOS, but if line 2 is busy, I go to Windows and use COMit, which provides V.42 error-correction and cuts all the crap. * SLMR 2.1a * --- Maximus 3.01 * Origin: The BandMaster, Vancouver, B.C., Canada (1:153/7715) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 105 HIGH SPEED MODEM Ref: F1U00004Date: 01/24/98 From: PRATAP DERRICK Time: 12:47pm \/To: ALL (Read 4 times) Subj: Ricochet Hello all!
