I got your message and wish to apologize if the messages from Ed and I offended you. I'll attempt to answer your questions and perhaps clear up any problems, (which were purely unintentional) and hopefully get back on track. JA> Hi Howard (and Eddie), JA> Just curious, but is there a reason both you and Eddie Downer posted JA> in three conferences _and_ under two different names ????? 1) The reason for the above is because equipment we're selling or trading are the last remnants of a business relationship that we had together which is being desolved. JA> I'm affording you the same courtesy to which you extended me and am JA> replying back in the same three conferences. In the future, I'd JA> suggest you save some bandwidth and reply in only one conference or JA> use NETMAIL. 2) We were attempting to avoid missing messages without first consulting with each other, not be dis-courteous. The few BBS's still operating here have quite a bit of crashes and mail often is lost. Later people have been known to ask (as you did) why we didn't reply. JA> Regarding your offer: ED> Tekram model : DC390 PCI Fast SCSI-2 controller HO> Tekram is made by American Megatrends Inc., who make bios chips JA> I have no argument against Tekram, The Tekram DC-390 HBA kit is $75 new 3) I bought the Tekrams in mid 1996 in a kit costing $159.00 and try stay up on current prices, ESPECIALLY when reselling used items. WE failed to do so in this instance, but checked (after you brought it to our attention) to find that the price has drastically dropped. Wee Young sells them now for $79.00 over the echo. The Barracuda ST32550N however, still cost over $500.00 from the Bason Hard Drive Warehouse advertized in the Computer Shopper at the time of my posting (1-800-400-9064). JA> BTW, ask Howard if he ever got my NETMAIL as he never responded 4) Only Ed has Netmail, I don't nor know how to use it. JA> I've been watching your trade offers on the Barracuda, AHA2940, DC390 JA> and some other SCSI controllers and they haven't been consistent. This JA> leads me to believe you have been trying hard to get rid of these with JA> no takers, you have a large quantity to push (auction maybe) 5) We have a quantity of items to move and have had differences on pricing between each other. These have been resolved in an effort to move these items out a.s.a.p. If you are interested in trading the VGA monitor and 2-Gig Maxtor IDE, still I would welcome your trade offer! JA> For the benefit of others who don't know better, you should tell the JA> truth here. You know as well as I these are both _NARROW_ devices JA> and are _FAR_ from the top of their respective lines. 6) Not to argue, but this is the truth. Seagate made both low and high end drives in Wide and Narrow SCSI formats. The Hawk series is designed to capture the home user at a low price and the Barracuda intended for small businesses, which sells at a higher price tag. BOTH interfaces are available for the Hawk and Barracuda and only their large capasity Elite series (available in wide SCSI only) outclasses it. The Barracuda is their fastest Narrow series drive and thereby a Top of the Line drive in its respective format. This information was sent to me by the Seagate technical department when we were deciding which series would best suit our business needs. I apologize again for the confusion and hope this answers your questions. It is my hope that if not this time, we will conduct business on a future occassion. No, COD would boost the price by at least $5.00, cause me to wait in line at the Post Office, and also risk that I get stuck for the COD and shipping charges if you refuse delivery or are not home. (It sounds dumb but this actually happened to me once before.) Will only do COD if you prepay COD and shipping charges (about $10.00), and the total would then be $45.00 (U.S.). I see by other messages that you are in Ontario, Canada. I hope you weren't figuring on Canadian currency! To prepay in full, please make a $40.00 money order -- U.S. funds only -- payable to Bob Levine, and mail to 21 Bond St., New York, NY 10012.
