BJ>--- Platinum Xpress/386/Wildcat! v1.3 BJ> * Origin: FidoNet International Coordinator Emeritus, for life :202/746) well i searched the PDF file again again using keywords Linux, Unix, and operating each individually and the only relavent hit was, " Linux does well under multitasking". In the whole 140 page document there is no indication the 56kflex SupraExpress modem supports Linux, even the support listing for help on different platforms make no mention of Unix or Linux. I guess this would be a fine modem for Dos with supplied software or window 3.x or 95 but as I intend to run Linux on both boxes it's a bust for me. thanx for your input it was worth a second look as this modem in all other respects meets my requirements, thanx. They claim they will get some more stock by September 22nd, and I should recieve my new modem two weeks after that....trick or treat? Anyways, as I do not have 56k internet service at my college yet, I am doing ok with the old buggy modem, using AT&K0 when I call BBS's to eliminate the modem "hangs". You don't have to use that when you call your internet server, although sometimes while logging in it "hangs" and I have to call back and try again (ATZ4). Glad to hear there are not any major problems with the 839B upgrade, it is about time they got it right! ;-) I had heard you need to use S15=128 to disable the v.42 MNP data compression on the 56k modems as the modem could not process it that fast, but that might have applied to the modems that were processor upgraded only, it seems the new circuit boarded modem you have works good. For those who might mention you can use S12=0 and S2=128 on the old 839 33.6 modems, yes I tried it but there are still character delays and when I am on the BBS's I don't need any character delays. AT&K0 eliminates all character delays, and if I want to download I can use the other sequence if I want data compression. Enjoy your new modem Bob! I have messed with the error levels in FD and in the BBS (TAG) that I am running and it either reports all calls at 14400 or will not connect at all. I was wondering if anyone out there has had this same problem and if so were you able to correct it to report the actual logon level.
