He, he, he, Reminds me of a story I read about an 80 year old lady that stooped to pick up her cat before answering the door. When she opened the door she was confronted by a bad guy pointing a pistol at her. She was pretty cool. She gave him the cat, right in the face! The bad guy was soon apprehended with the *deep* lacerations on his face being the give away. The story noted that "Fluffy" was fine and was treated to an extra portion that night for dinner. jackson --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 277 CATS Ref: F3K00005 Date: 03/15/98 From: ROSS SAUER Time: 03:09am \/To: MISS KITTY (Read 0 times) Subj: Cats! -=> Quoting Miss Kitty to Ross Sauer <=- -> Same here for Squirrely, she's about the same size as Patches, but -> weighs 22 pounds, more than twice as much Patches! Heinlein's love of cats and his use of cats in some of his works. The best-known of the "Heinlein cats" is undoubtedly Pixel, the title character of _The Cat Who Walks Through Walls_. But there is an earlier book, very much influenced by a cat, that I'd like to recommend: _The Door Into Summer_. Every human who's ever shared a home with a cat is well aware that cats and doors make for some interesting times. And if you've ever lived with a cat in a cold climate, you also know that cats do not like winter weather. Heinlein probably noticed one of his own cats searching for a "door into summer" one cold day, and incorporated the concept into an interesting tale about loyalty and deception involving two species. (Hint: Heinlein's *cats* demonstrate only the noblest of traits.) Walter and Meko wluffman@usit.net CompuServe: 74721,3464 ... Well, Carol, I don't walk my dogs. I have 2 now in the 2 acre fenced yard and I have no choice but to leave them there even though 2 dogs have been killed out there. I am keeping a Rotweiler/lab mix for a friend of my grandson. When my 100 lb. lab/collie mix who ruled the roost around here got killed the rottie decided she would take over. My other female, Dawg-dog, finally rebelled and beat her up pretty bad -- some nasty puncture wounds on Sock's leg. We went a round of penicillin with Socks in the house all the time. I can't mix Dawg-dog and Socks, so Socks stays in the house and on the other porch. I also have a 10 lb. Yorkie female, Sable, who stays in the house all the time, hates the Rottie and snarls and fights her every chance she gets. Socks is very patient with Sable, but once she did let Sable know who was the biggest. It really freightened Sable, but it has made her worse than ever and I can't let Socks and Sable be together. In addition to all this, I am keeping my 11 cats as close as I can. There are some who stay out all day, and some who stay in all the time, and some who come and go. This is a full time job, trying to keep everybody alive until some determination is made about this thing out in the woods. I put Socks and Sable out the back door for bathroom purposes, keeping an eye on them. I don't feel that I am in any danger because I go from the car on the carport to the house and in the afternoon I go to the mailbox. --- Platinum Xpress/Win/Wildcat5! v2.0 * Origin: LindenRoom BBS (901) 458-9001 (1:123/215)
