The vets I have are very caring and as concerned as I am. The couple that I hit--at the same clinic--I requested they not see my babies any more, and they left the clinic. When I had to have Ling Pu put down when his kidneys failed, we went back to see him and hold him. They brought him out, his coat brushed to a sheen, on a white bathmat for the visit. The vet cried as much as Tom and I, and some of the female attendants were sniffing too. It was a very peaceful leave taking, and Ling was obviously in a great deal of pain. They made the transition very easy for us, and sent a sympathy card afterward. My veterinarians are my friends, and hope it always stays that way. I began seeing Dr. Westfall in the late 60s, and he is still my vet, though another younger Doctor there is also very helpful, and was the one who euthanized Ling. Considering the size of the area here, I think it's great to have two veterinarians I can depend on, and I wouldn't want to lose them! Cheers! I'm CS> not sure as the only thing I can see here is net123 and I am not sure CS> of the location of CS> that net. CS> If so, you may be having a problem with coyotes. While Net123 (Memphis, TN and surrounding area) is nowhere near the West Coast, Lora may indeed have a coyote-predation problem. Coyotes are occasionally seen in the western third of Tennessee -- as are feral dogs, at least two species of eagles, and other predators. The coyotes and feral dogs are not at all common, even in wooded and rural areas, due to strong rabies-control measures and leash laws, but it isn't at all unusual to see canine roadkill between Memphis and Nashville. (Armadillos, too -- but AFAIK those armor-plated possums don't prey on cats.) While snakes don't prey on cats, they certainly know how to defend themselves against curious kitties -- and the Memphis area is home to the rattlesnake, water moccasin and copperhead, all three of which pack enough venom to kill a cat within minutes. Believe it or not, raccoons can also be a problem for cats and their owners. These masked bandits can be cute, but an adult raccoon can weigh upwards of thirty pounds, including sharp teeth and claws. And raccoons are quite bold when it comes to stealing food, whether from a (supposedly) tightly-closed garbage can or a pet's food dish. Many a big dog has learned the hard way that raccoons can be dangerous -- very few cats would stand a chance against an angry/hungry/scared raccoon. And, of course, careless and/or malicious humans take their toll on cats. This may sound as if the Memphis area is an especially dangerous place for kitties. It isn't really any more dangerous than any other area, but I wanted to point out some of the less obvious threats to our feline friends. ... I truly appreciate this, Carol! Anyway, one of our favorite "neighbouring" kitties has really been feeling his "oats" the past few days. He is SOOOOO silly! He's the orange Tabbi that I've spoken about here. "Mackie Cat" is his name, and playing silly is his game. We were leaving to go to church last night, and he was out "romping" in the "forest" (the grass needs mowing already!) We knew it was him because his owners have attached several "jingle bells" to his collar. I started mewing and chortling to him to get him to come see me and he came charging over and stopped dead in his tracks about 3 feet in front of me, STTTTTRRREEEEEEEEEETTTTCCCCCCCHHHHH of the front paws, up with the hiney and tail, meow congenially, and ZOOOOOOOOM! Just as I bend over to give him a skritch, off he goes like a streak of white lightning or was that orange??? < He is quite a comedian! Take care! She had to have her feet soaked a couple of times a day in a mild TIDE detergent solution. When we had her checked after surgery she needed antibiotics for one paw. :( I hate to do it to Buttons, too, but she will NOT leave my furniture alone. I don't mind this with the current furniture which was bought used anyway, but years from now I won't want her tearing up any new stuff, so she may as well have it done now, sigh. I think I'm going to take the collie next and have him fixed because he has a herniated navel. They'll do both surgeries together. Maybe I should take both of them, they love to play together. Buttons and Samantha have a hole in one couch that they used to climb inside of! We covered it with a piece of cloth, with which we closed the hole as tightly as we could. Next, Buttons was trying to pull that cloth off! I haven't seen her doing that lately, however. She uses her claws to climb the back of the second couch though. They also tore up a recliner chair, which disappeared when we set it out on the curb. How SW> hard would it be to introduce them to a puppy? LOL You just bring him in, they'll love it. We had adopted a 3-year-old dalmation when we got our kittens. The dalmation seemed that he would eat them alive. :( So we kept them apart until the dalmation kept threatening my hubby's little girl. We took the dalmation to the pound. :( Then we got the collie, who is about the same age as the kittens. Samantha was ess likely to play with him, but was doing fine until her surgery. Without claws she was much less likely to play, though she will still swat at his tail on occasion. The collie's name is Bruiser. He's getting to where he plays too rough for Buttons, but she will agitate him by hanging around the closed door to the utility room, where he sleeps at night. She used to go in if I'd open the door, but now she'd run the other way. Playing with him is one thing, but she wouldn't want to be locked in with him. He can't get behind the washer and dryer, but the cats can, so if t happens by accident I know they would be ok. --- * Origin: Generic BBS (1:157/110.5) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 277 CATS Ref: F2200000 Date: 02/01/98 From: BUD JAMISON Time: 01:20pm \/To: DENISE MORRIS (Read 0 times) Subj: Kittens -> do it to Buttons, too, but she will NOT leave my furniture alone. -> this with the current furniture which was bought used anyway, but -> years from now I won't want her tearing up any new stuff, YEARS from now?
