I have always loved both cats and dogs so much and have just been really bad about picking up strays. I find homes for all that I can, but there are always those that cannot be placed anywhere. That is how I wound up with so many. I live way out in the country and there is a road that I take to town that is close to the highway where people drop off unwanted animals all spring through fall. I guess I am going to have to take the long way in, because I cannot leave them there in the lurch. We are working on a humane shelter here, though. Do your kitties stay inside all the time? I am keeping mine in more and more since it is cold and so much bad has happened to both cats and dogs. Some of them never go outside and love it. Others like to go out sometimes. Four men were bragging about how smart their dogs are. The first man was an Engineer, the second man was an Actuary, the third man was a Chemist, the fourth was a Government Worker. To show off, the Engineer called to his dog. "T-Square, do your stuff." T-square trotted over to a desk, took out some paper and a pen and promptly drew a circle, a square and a triangle. Everyone agreed that was pretty smart. But the Actuary said his dog could do better. He called his dog and said, "Slide Rule, do your stuff." Slide Rule went out into the kitchen and returned with a dozen cookies. He divided them into 4 equal piles of 3 cookies each. Everyone agreed that was good. But the Chemist said his dog could do better. He called his dog and said, "Measure, do your stuff." Measure got up, walked over to the fridge, took out a quart of milk, got a 10 ounce glass from the cupboard and poured exactly 8 ounces without spilling a drop. Everyone agreed that was good. Then the three men turned to the Government Worker and said, "What can your dog do?" The Government Worker called to his dog and said, "Coffee Break, do your stuff." Coffee Break jumped to his feet, ate the cookies, drank the milk, dumped on the paper, sexually assaulted the other three dogs, claimed he injured his back while doing so, filed a grievance report for unsafe working conditions, put in for Worker's Compensation and went home on sick leave. Hello Joan, Hey, I like that, a person that doesn't beat around the bush :) Where to start? Well Joan, I'm the happy owner of 2 beautiful, 4.5 month old male kittens, there names "Buddy" and "Shadow". Buddy is a Brown Tabby, who thinks he's a dog............ I've never seen an intelligent cat like this one, he's surely one of a kind, extremely affectionate and friendly. Well, as for Shadow, he's black and is a little more independant, he's cuddly at times and unlike Buddy, he definitely does not like being picked up as much. They both make a great pair, and boy, when they get going, it's like watching the Roadrunner and Coyote characters on the Bugs Bunny Show, at times I have to split them up, especially when my apartment starts looking like it has been hit by a twister :) JK> Personally, I have used clumping litter for as long as it JK> has been around, and have never had any problems with it JK> whatsoever. While on the topic of Clumping Litter. A few days ago, I posted in this area, a message asking about this kind of litter and I haven't heard back from anyone yet. I am using this type at the moment, I love it.........no odours, but, I am having problems with the dust level and the product that I am using, does state "Low Dust Formula" on it's ontainer. Any suggestions Joan? One more question while I'm at it. Would you be able to recommend a product that deters cats from jumping into houseplants? I have heard of things like, Apple-bitter and Orange-bitter, what are these and if any good, where can you purchase them? Joan, before I forget, I am writing you from the Ottawa, Ontario area and hopefully if you suggest any products to me, I won't have any problems getting them. Hopefully I will hear back from you :).... and take care. Thanks, Jean-Pierre Fauchon ... JEEP@ZERO.TATTLE.NET ___ Blue Wave/QWK v2.11 --- Maximus 3.01 * Origin: BitByters BBS, Rockland ON, Can. Joan, Sorry if I came on too strong... To answer your questions, No, I am not a vet, you could not pay me enough to do that. There is not enough money in the world! I did hold several paravet certs. They are all from other states than the one we reside in now. One of them is feline. All out of date, admittingly. Have your vet contact me if you insist on verification, I'll 'have my vet call your vet'. I try to be a 'good neighbor', so I am often asked for help. And have escorted quite a few families for 'the final trip'. Peaches trip was one of these. The background and affiliations I alluded to are computer related, AOP, NAP, COCA, etc. I debunk such 'cyber legends'. I have actually been in the echo for some time. I lurk all the echos that come in to TheLitterBox(r) BBS for content. Clumping litter can be dangerous to >kittens<, but I am not aware of any incidents for full grown cats. And I have found several 'serious' sites on the WWW that have simular information. I was at autopsy, the vet knows me, and wanted to know for herself. I am the one who got permission from the family. The stomach was full, hair and litter. Poor thing could not pass it, or regurgitate it. I am also the one who presented 'Peanut' to them. I always have quite a few contacts of kittens needing homes! Actually, I am envious of them, Peanut was a 'breeding mistake'. But the breeders did not see her potential. She is going to be a killer at the shows. Think of a persian, bright >grey< eyes, fine silky brown 'wood pattern' coat. She already looks like a fine piece of furniture. Personality is 'ragdoll', with a constant medium purr. As to my owners, Boris and Natasha, you are quite welcome to visit them at thelitterbox.org. Yes, pictures, quotes, and a full fido bbs on the web to boot. They run the whole show.
