Well, I was otherwise occupied most of the time, but I'm sure that was the case. Of course, protests during the Rep. convention were given some overage. MS> Did your network TV news tell you that hundreds MS> of pro-drug legalization protesters tied up MS> downtown traffic for an hour this weekend with MS> blockades? I gave up network news for Lent - 1986. When I hear it at all it is unintentional but enough to convince me that _they_ and the big news papers and magazines are "the mysterious forces" deciding who should be elected or defeated. I think they manipulated things so that Dole, rather than a strong alternative, would face Clinton, assuring his return to the oval office, back during the primaries. Worse, I think it will work since Dole is such a poor candidate that people are voting for fourth, fifth, and sixth party candidates because they figure all they can do is "send a message." --- Maximus 2.01wb * Origin: FVRCVS MAXIMVS (1:273/952) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 275 GUNS Ref: DD400008 Date: 09/04/96 From: WYATT DOOLEY Time: 10:34am \/To: DAVE APPEL (Read 1 times) Subj: Info Wanted DA>Check with Ben Sansing. I've also heard of a .45acp failing to stop a person after 7 shots. Stories just don't prove anything, police stories aren't much better for several reasons. I think the .45 is a better stopper than a 9mm, but to say a 9mm is ineffectual or not even in the same class is downright rediculous. Show me one person who is afraid of a .45acp who is willing to take a shot with a 9mm. Big difference there, the FBI uses expanding ammo, albeit not the greatest (subsonic in 9mm, which is about as close to FMJ as you can get), but it is better than FMJ wich is what the armed forces use. .45acp and 9mm hardball are not going to be too much different unless the bullet hits a bone, neither one punches a hole, they both sort of push through, doing about as little disruption as one can do when passing through flesh. I'd rather have twice the ammo if I was restricted to using FMJ. AM> JD> Now the same for a .45 AM>Once in a while I'll shoot competition. Several courses of fire involve stee AM>targets. The .45 users had no problem; however, the targets had to be adjust AM>because the 9mm's couldn't knock the steels down. I shoot competition as well, not many folks use the 9mm, but many use a .38 super. Regardless of the chambering, nobody in their right mind would want to get in front of a shooter of this capability. With reliably expanding ammo, either the 9mm or the .45 is going to put bad guys down quick. You'll have a few more taking more shots with a 9mm than a .45acp, but the .45 is in no way a magic wand. Personally, I'd use the Illinois State Police load: 9mm +p+. Actually, Cor-Bon's 9mm +p is loaded a bit hotter, and has a slightly better record. 450ft/lbs of lead sizzling out at over 1300fps is just too much to _not_ make a dent. Machiavelli these people -> ain't... I was a history and political science major from 68 to 71, a particularly interesting time to be on a college campus, to put it mildly. One of the interesting facts I learned then was this: Revolutionaries hate and despise REFORMERS even more than they do the forces of oppression. They absolutely do NOT want moderate reforms to succeed, their revolution can only occur if the situation continues to deteriorate. So they obstruct ANY attempt to make things better. For the greater good, of course. Regards John --- WILDMAIL!/WC v4.12 * Origin: Hudson Valley BBS (1:2624/808.0)
