An interesting question, and one worthy of some discussion. This statement came in answer to a question in Parade magazine, although the fiqure given was 3%. The NRA only gives voting rights to life members, and to people who have been members for 5 consecutive years. This coupled with the growth experienced over the last few years means that a significant percentage of the membership is not eligible to vote. I don't have the figures, but my gut feeling is that 25-35% of the membership *can't* vote. That's my take on the question, but I'd like to hear what others have to say. Besides, we tried being reasonable for years.... OK, Paul, the following is addressed to the poster (asker), not to you personally. The NRA rules and bylaws specify that only Life Members and annual members who have held membership for five or more consecutive years can vote on leadership positions. That means that although I first joined the NRA in 1960, I can't vote on the leadership since I got aggravated at them a couple of years back and let my membership lapse. I don't know if it's a good policy or not and am not too concerned about it. After all, I knew what the policy was when I first joined up. Regards. Why he _still_ sends money to yhe NRA Black-Hole is way beyond me. WD> The passage of the terror bill has pissed him off . . . Its the NRA that _really_ pisses him off . . . . me too! WD> . . . and he's not looking at the logical WD> reasons behind the NRA backing the bill. What "logical" reasons are there for NRA supporting Sect. 809, the "armor piercing ammo study?" We all know what ammo will penetrate level II police vests . . . . 22-250, 30-30, 270, 25-06, 30-06, etc. It's real "logical" that NRA would support a bill that gives BATF a $40,000,000 pay increase after their "performance" at Waco and elsewhere, that NRA is always "bellyaching" about. Oh, sure . . . it _was_ $100 million, but NRA "bravely" got it down to $40 million, right? Wrong . . . as NRA willingly plays its part as the Anti- Thesis under the Hegelian dialectic process, International Fascism only has to press for $100 million every time it really wants $40 million for ATF, & NRA _supports_ exactly what the Fascists want in the Synthesis! NRA is just _so_ brave . . . . . in the conflict of opposites. Aren't you proud? WD> . . . some times you have to sooth the liberals with a little WD> bullshirt . my donkey-end! NRA "soothed the liberals" by supporting the Federalization of State crimes. NRA paved the way for ATF & other Feds to vastly increase the scope of their jurisdiction & even to put gunowners in unconstitutional double jeopardy. Conceivably, persons using a gun to defend themselves from criminal attack, after being acquitted by state court, could be tried on Federal charges for "assault with a dangerous weapon" & given a 30-year sentence in the Federal pen. Remember, Federal time is _real_ time, ie, no time-off for good behavior, etc. Thanks, NRA! And you call this "soothing the liberals with bullshirt?" WD> . . . even though you have every intention WD> of working on changing this bill at a later date . . . Now _this_ is where the bullshit comes in! That's the same crap NRA fed machinegunners in 1986. We're still waiting . . . . . . Why would NRA bother to go back & change something they supported the creation of? That would be kind of stupid, don't you think? WD> . . . and poisoning the campaigns of the ones that voted this WD> infringment of our rights into law. Oh brother . . . this really makes me puke! The Senate voted 91-8 for passage of this Fascist Terror Bill. Do you really think NRA is going to campaign against 91 Senators?! Get real! I can almost guarantee you that NRA will support the Fascists Phil Graham & Kay Bailey from Texas. How about that Traitor Bob Dole, who engineered passage of the Brady Bill? How much of your sheeple members money is going to support him? Short memories . . . . Can't you see that the Fascist Hegelian dialectic's "conflict of opposites" is using NRA to willingly play its part in a dog-&-pony-show for you sheeple? Wake up man! The idea is to get you to send in your $30 bucks/yr. & sit back on your can while NRA throws it down a Black-Hole & then turns right around & supports Fascist Filth like this Nazi Terror Bill. They're talking the _real_ Gulag & Adobe Wall, mate . . . this isn't just some political game. Its usurpation of our political rights! What about you're family? Who is your God . . . the lord of Compromise?! Do you think that after they kill you, you are just going to float around in limbo in that Great Compromise between heaven & hell for eternity? What about your accountability for your duty to your family, & your paying-away of your God-given rights? Have you considered that? Time is out! The _only_ thing standing between the rape, murder, family dispersion & absolute terror of Planetary Fascism, the Gulags, Federal detention centers, sexual mutilation, the Chinese door, electric shock torture, hi-tech psychological torture with virtual reality, drug torture to a vegetable state, & the AK/M16 to the back of the head . . . . _is_ the very thin line of the few American Men left, with their rifles & cases of ammo. Please, don't badger those Men with your blindness. Stand in awe & respect! But, sadly . . . _you_ support NRA's support of an "ammo study." You & NRA supported restricting Habeas Corpus to death-row inmates. Well, guess what, they only account for 1% of Habeas Corpus cases, & the Terror Bill is going to restrict it for the other 99%, also. Also, what makes you think it won't be _you_ on trial soon for your life, for not turning in all your guns . . . . after NRA gets finished with the show? Habeas Corpus isn't going to be there for you. They can just lock you up & throw away the key, without any trial. Section 706, that you & NRA supported, punishes anyone who transfers explosive materials to someone if you have "reasonable cause" to suspect they are going to use it in a crime. Does ammo make an "explosion?" Have you ever sold a box of ammo to a friend, or at the gun show? Ride with that dog-&-pony . . . . . . . . . . . . ! ...
