Doesn't sound too logical, given that teflon is one of the most inert molecules as long as you stay below 600F. Now, if somehow it got over 600 and began to change, you might have something... And who is to guarantee that anyone fireing off a gun in celebration is going to make sure the muzzle is at least 75 from horizontal? Personally, I'll fire into the ground rather than the air. Reminds me of the time I tried ricocheting a .22 off a patch of ice in the quarry near where I lived as a kid. I knew the downrange was farmland for 4 miles out, Dad had been very clear on what he'd do to me if he ever caught me firing toward anything inhabitable within range of the .22... Anyway, the sound can best be described as the coming of hell. And LOUD! JT> JS> Terminal velocity JT> I've seen this bandied about here, but what does "terminal velocity" JT> mean? Literally: Final velocity. Generally referring to (and in this case) the fastest velocity of an object. We were all wondering what the velocity of a .22lr bullet would be if fired straight up and fell back to earth. My estimate is varied between 2 and 3 times the velocity of a round hailstone of similar diameter. Enough to hurt, and possibly penetrate skin, be probably not enough to kill. The problem comes in when one does not fire straight up, and a low arc allows the bullet to retain velocity from the initial charge. --- SLMR 2.0 The best defense against logic is stupidity. * LAKOTA v1.5 --- Alexi/Mail 2.02 (#10000) * Origin: -= N I G H T L I N E =- Home Of GameNet '95 (1:115/815) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 275 GUNS Ref: D5S00076 Date: 05/19/96 From: JOHN SANDOW Time: 06:03pm \/To: JOHN PERZ (Read 2 times) Subj: 22 caps JP>-> Oh yes. You might have to go to a spring so light that it would not have enough force to shove the cartridge in battery reliably. If you can locate a spare bolt, and drill it out to about 1/2 to 1/3 the original mass, and a spring tuned to cycle such, it should work fine. It really depends, some guns are made so they barely function with hivelocity ammo, they need hypervelocity ammo to work well, some are made on the other end of the spectrum. I know that there have been conversions done like this that do work. You might also need to alter your magazine, feed lips and such... It's worth a try if you are seriously interested.
