Got a couple things on my mind (for a change) and thought I'd bounce them off you. First off, I received a telephone solicitation yesterday from someone working for the NRA. The poor kid sounded as if he was reading from a script and, when I told him to call me Cloyce rather than Mr. Osborn, it totally rattled him. A couple of times he called me "Mr. Cloyce" - not really a professional image. Then he proceeded to tell me how if I re-upped, I'd receive all these great and wonderful books. I asked a few questions about the books and it appears that most of them are reprints from the NRA's offerings of years ago. When I asked about gunsmithing books, he proudly exclaimed that they were offering a book called "Gunsmithing" by Roy Dunlap. I've got a signed original in my library and gave ole Dan Major my duplicate copy. I think what really aggravated me was that he sounded like he was selling the "book club" more than he was selling the NRA. I didn't re-up to subscribe to a book club. I re-upped to support you and the goals of the NRA. Would you please look into this telephone soliciation scheme? From your office, you ought to be able to get a lot more information than I can. Second thing. This afternoon I received a telephone call from a pollster (working for an outfit whose name I recognized but can't recall right now - oh, well, such is old age). The questions asked were very neutral (not loaded - I know how to ask loaded questions and recognize them when I hear them) but among them was "How do you feel on the question of gun control? For it? Against it? No opinion?" Of course, you know how I answered that one. Other questions concerned abortion, my choice of presidential candidates, etc. Was her organization working for the NRA? If not, then at least one national political organization is concerned about our views (which kinda warms my heart). Regards. Cloyce. --- EZPoint V2.2 * Origin: Res Ipsa Loquitur, Indian Territory (1:147/34.13)
